iPhone 14 Pro Max iPhone 14 CarPlay problems?

iPhone 14 Pro Max, running iOS 16.0.2.
2017 Buick Encore.

Plug phone in - it "activates" CarPlay on the car - but the screen just goes blank.
On the Phone, it gives the CarPlay launch screen - and then goes blank.

So, it doesn't work.

Wife's iPhone Xr running 16.0.2 works fine.

Anyone else have such issues and able to solve them?

Issue discovered.

With ExpressVPN on, CarPlay doesn't work. With ExpressVPN off, it does work.

Additionally, this seems to be a known issue with the Network Protection option. If you turn off Network Protection, CarPlay works with ExpressVPN on.
