If you already have a Pro model phone, you would not be downgrading to a non-Pro phone. There doesn't need to be an incentive to go from Pro-> Reg because those that wanted/needed the Pro wouldn't downgrade after a year. Once you're on the Pro line, you're pretty much destined to stay there.

Those that want a Pro phone will either get a 13 Pro or 14 Pro. 14 isn't even in the equation.

I agree OP. It was interesting to see during the keynote that they didn’t really try to sell it. Almost like they were willing to admit the obvious. All focus was on the pro models and rightfully so.

Erm... no. I was set to get the 14 Pro Max and am now leaning more towards the 14 Plus, simply because of dynamic island. If it can be turned off that might make me go Pro again. Not sure about always on display, might introduce further burn in issues. I'll simply wait for now and check them out in a store before I buy anything.

things like budget, needs, color, model offerings, sizes do not keep me with a certain "track" of iphone

I believe that is the case for most people

Silly thread, given Apple never made such a claim.

If you have a Pro, why would you move to a non-Pro the next year?

Breaking news: Model Y is no better than Model X.

I cant understand why the 14 didn't get promotion, they should have given it the 13pro screen. The 14 pro would still have the brighter screen with AOD and the dynamic island. That and the camera would be enough of an upgrade over the 14. Then people with a 12/13 would have a reason to upgrade. I would upgrade from 13pro to 14 with promotion just to have a lighter phone.

Only Samsung makes the Pro display, which means it's expensive. BOE and LGD make everything else.

What am I missing here? It seems obvious that a pro phone is going to be better than a non-pro phone announced within a year of each other.
You are missing that the non pro phone of this year, being sold along last years pro, is more expensive

Plus phones tend to get better the newer they get?

iPhone 14 is $829
iPhone 13 Pro is $899, if you can find at Apple Store

IMHO

The Pro Models are the ones showcasing Apple's latest and greatest gimmicks, aimed at hardcore iPhone enthusiasts who upgrade their phones every year.

While the regular line is there for the masses, especially the customers who are coming from a model that was released years ago (say the iPhone 6s). It's a more affordable but also safe buy for those who are NOT upgrading yearly.

There is no incentive that the 14 (plus or regular) have over the 13 pro

Interesting move
It is never a plus when you go from a Pro Max to non-ProMax.

If you want an upgrade get the 14 ProMax, it IS an upgrade in my eyes and thousands of others.
