There are several threads on Reddit about this, especially relating to instagram, WhatsApp and Snapchat. Weird. I am having zero problems with my 14 pm, but I also don’t use those apps.

Yes same problem for me. Takes 5-6 seconds to get image. Yes starting in video seems ok. Then switching to phot takes an age to be usable.

Camera launches fine from imessage
Not for me. That’s also very slow for me. Works fine for the first time. But after that it’s painfully slow

Edit: scanning text from iMessage is, however, always fast

i bought 2 pro max on friday, 128gb space black works fine, but the 256gb silver have this problem, i try with another app like pro camera and works fine, the problem is with apple app... hope is a software problem.

What I don’t understand is why some have it and others don’t.

Could be for a number of different reasons (e.g. camera module from a different manufacturer or software being configured in a specific way for this issue to occur). As of now, we don't really know what causes this issue.

I've just discovered that it may be a RAM management issue with the camera app. When I clear my iPhone 14 Pro's RAM by first enabling Assistive Touch in the Accessibility Settings, then press Volume Up, Volume Down and hold the Power Button until the shutdown menu comes up and then long press the Home Button on the Assistive Touch menu to clear the RAM, the Camera App always launches quickly on the first try.
For subsequent camera app launches, however, the app still takes around 5 seconds to open.

I rang Apple this morning as the Apple Store wasn’t much help yesterday; the suggested doing a full factory reset. I explained I’d already done this in the phone settings but the guy on the phone said you need to do a full factory reset by connecting it to a computer and doing it from there as this actually wipes the OS from the phone and reinstalls it. Apparently a reset from the phone does not do this.
I’ll let you all know if this work, tbh I’m not hopeful but worth a try.

Just hope 16.0.2 comes soon with a fix. I don’t have the GPS bug some have.
I also don't have the GPS issue. The camera not opening for 4-5 seconds on app launch is the only issue with my iPhone 14 Pro.

So I rang Apple Support back and they’ve escalated it to the engineers, I did a screen share and reproduced the problem and they’ve take the logs from my phone and took a video recording of the problem. I was told I should hear back in 1-2 days.

Deffo software bug. I have it on my 14pro. However I do notice a almost static type noise coming from the lens area when camera app is on
I have the exact same problem on my iPhone 14pro. It happens when I open the camera app and then every time I switch between front/back camera, including in iMessage. I also now notice the static noise after you pointed it out!

Same issue here (14max pro 256) - from the home screen or lock screen camera app opens to black then it takes 3-7s sometimes longer before I can see though the lenses.

After I snap photo and go to view it and then return back to camera mode, a blurred image stays on forever (log enough for screen saver to kick in and lock my phone).

If I go back to view the photo and then back to camera it takes around 3-5 sec again before I can see the image though the lenses ... same if opened though the iMessages app.

Also when camera is on I can hear that static noise if I put my ear close to the lenses - almost like mini fan running in there ;)

I just went through the support app on my phone - confirmed through online diagnostics it’s not a hardware issue. When I explained that others were having the same problem, the tech asked that we all submit a bug report describing the issue using the ‘feedback’ form:
