Hello, I am wondering if anyone else’s new 14 pro/pro max is not as bright as advertised. Oddly enough, when setting next to my wife’s 13pro outside, the 13pro is brighter. But, when inside they are the opposite. I have checked the usual suspects such as brightness, True Tone, all of the options in accessibility. I am thinking either the phone is faulty or my screen protector is causing an issue. I haven’t pulled the screen protector off yet because I suck ar putting them on and I did excellent With the one currently on there….lol.

I thought when the keynote said the 14 pro went up to 2000 nits outside it would be noticeably better but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Any thoughts are welcome 😀

I find my 14 pro max is warmer/more yellow than my 13 pro max. Also my 14 pro max display gets mad yellow when tilting side to side. This wasn't the case with the 13.

No issues here, my 14 Pro is visibly brighter outside than my 13 Pro. I went to Disneyland on Sunday and it was a night and day difference.

I believe there is a ambient light scanner on the rear of the phone on the 14 Pro. Maybe its not triggering 2000nits because its flat on a dark surface?

I do recall my 13PM last year being yellow to start off with.

I just gave that a whirl. I held both betweeen me and the sun and hers was brighter. But inside, mine is still brighter..lol. I also held both outside in the air between me and the sidewalk with the sun shining on both and got the same result as when they were sitting on the black hot tub outside.

Do you have auto brightness in accessibility on or is it off and you just have the slider in display set at 100%? I would take it to an Apple Store and see if I could check against another but the closest Apple Store to me is 2.5 hrs away.

Auto-brightness is turned on.

Thanks for the quick response! That would make sense that it would be on auto brightness because it would probably be blinding if it was at the max indoors. It looks like mine got brighter when I turned on auto brightness while outside.

Thanks for all of your help!

*** So, I ended up buying an iphone 14 pro because the nearest Apple store with a Max was a couple of hours away and the BestBuy closest to me had the Pro's in stock. I held the Pro next to my Pro Max and the Pro was indeed brighter. I even had my wife validate to assure that I wasn't going crazy. There wasn't a huge difference and I could only really tell when I held the Max next to another IPhone. But, when I am shelling out this much cash I expect perfection...lol. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions!

You didn’t adjust the display colors / tint in accessibility, did you? That reduces brightness.

Naw, the only things I adjusted were AOD( just in case it messed with brightness being a new thing and all), display brightness, light or dark theme, auto brightness in accessibility, and True Tone.

If you turn off auto brightness, the max screen brightness is reduced.

Thanks for the tip! I actually had just learned this from an earlier post that someone had made. After I read that it made perfect sense. Even if the brightness slider was all the way to the right I think that it would be way too bright and wasteful to have it at 'outside in the sun' brightness when sitting inside.

Thank you very much for posting that tip for me though!

Posting this from a 14 Pro while outside at an event in pretty abundant sunshine. Upgraded from a 13 Pro and have to say: The brighter screen is the most significant upgrade this year, at least for me. The added brightness was evident the first time I took the phone outside, but I’m especially appreciating it today. Another great use case is driving directions, as the screen is easily visible while mounted of my dash, even in direct sun. Didn’t think much of this when I bought the phone, but it’s become my favorite feature!
