I want to start a Youtube vlog and just wanted to see if anyone has any advice on which option would be the best for me

1. Upgrade from a iPhone SE (2nd gen.) to a iPhone 14 Pro or Max for a min. of $999 + a selfie stick or hand held Gimbal for $50+
2. Keep my iPhone SE (2nd gen.) and buy a GoPro 11 (w/ shorty stick) for $430 (sale on GoPro site)

iPhone Cons
iPhone option would be more expensive
when vlogging with an iPhone, I wouldn't be able to see the screen with the camera facing me
iPhone Pros
I would have a better iPhone than what I currently have
wouldn't have to carry around a 2nd device when traveling and vlogging
I have enough Apple gift cards to cover the price, so no money from my bank account would be used

GoPro Pros
Cheaper than a new iPhone
GoPro Cons
?

For me, go with the iPhone, its a no-brainer.

First of all, sure you can see yourself in that really tiny front LCD panel, which, at a certain distance (for vlogging), might not even be practical. However, since its YouTube we're talking about you could vlog using the iPhone front camera, which has been very much improved this year.

Another thing is that, if you're planning on getting a GoPro, I imagine you have a pretty decent computer, at least to be able to transfer those files and edit them. The iPhone is key here, not only are you going to be able to record videos, but you can edit them lightly before transferring them to your computer (Mac I imagine).

All the nifty formats that the GoPro is offering you are not going to be of much use once YT's compression kicks in, its more a matter of resolution, and to be honest, you'll be moving around 1440p to 2560p if not going straight 1080p. They both handle 60FPS which is ideal.

I'm not sure of what you have in mind for microphone sound, but you would have to see if the IP14Pro/ProMax has a better mic than the GoPro. This is, unless you plan on using an external one.

It is true that the GoPro is much more versatile, not only will you be able to use it for vlogging, but it will also allow you to do much more "risky" recording than what the iPhone could.

However, the iPhone does start at more than double the price of the GoPro, without taking into account a high-quality micro-SD card and maybe a few extra batteries. But on the other hand you're also getting a smartphone which, without the need of an external device, will allow you to edit and publish to YT on the go.

The front-facing camera will offer you either 1080p60fps or 4k60fps, while still being able to see yourself.

I once owned a GoPro and used it for biking, but it felt underwhelming since the storage would fill up fast and the batteries would die pretty quickly. I'm not sure how much that's improved since.

I guess you could always wait a little more and see the quality of the IP14Pro/PM on YouTube (both front and rear cameras), and then decide against the GoPro 11. That way you'd get an idea of the final quality.

But in the end its up to you! good luck!
