I got the Belkin one put on by Apple when I picked up my 14 Pro Max from the Apple Store. I said I want a screen protector for it.

Now, I’m not really sure what they gave me exactly. Was it the one I’m supposed to install myself, or was it the one they’re meant to install for me?

Honestly, though, I think it should be implied that you wanted them to install a screen protector for you, and THAT is what they should have offered you. Or at least they should have clarified with you.

It should be the one they're meant to install for you. Those come in a different package (more like a envelope package, oppose to a box type packaging).

I guess what I meant was, I didn’t specifically ask for them to put it on flr me, but they figured it out quite easily.

I think they should’ve assumed that you wanted yours put on your phone, but if they really weren’t sure, then they should’ve asked for clarity.

Yes, that's the normal deal. I too picked my new Ph up recently, said I'd like them to fit it whilst we're there. It was done, I paid and left. Easy.

From the little info we have from the OP I'm assuming he/ she bought the I'll-fit-it-myself version, that's also packed quite differently. Who from is also still unclear. So, either way, those are not for the jig, only the high batch ones they don't separately sell to the public. They've many so can burn through them if fitment isn't perfect. I can imagine them not wanting to fit the one the OP bought/ supplied (for self-application) as the expense is high if it doesn't work out perfectly.

But hey, we'll not know what the story was until the OP fills in the missing bits.

I use the Mothca anti-glare glass from Amazon, I’m not a fan of the shiny reflective glass anymore, spoiled by the clarity of the anti-glare. Sells for $8.99 and install it myself. It’s easy.

First try didn’t work for me. There was some dust under the protector, I tried to open it at the corner to remove it and the whole thing came off. Second try was fine.
Exactly what happened with both my Spigen ones, both had dust in the exact same little spot.

I tend to get extremely pedantic over dust under screen protectors- I‘ve tried all the methods (hot steam etc!) with mixed results. I found this on Amazon and it’s genius - it has a plastic sticker film that you pull away, removing any dust in one go immediately before applying the screen protector. Worked for me perfectly first time. Thought I’d share in case it helps someone!

This original topic of this thread has devolved from "nothing" into "even less". 🤪
Lol the usual rabbit hole once an OP doesn't return or clarify anything in their own thread. A trillion ($) questions remain and a free for all pass becomes issued.

Merry Xmas everyone 🎅 🎄

This is one of the ones that I tried. Every one of them had bubbles along the edge, and not because of dust. They just didn’t sit right on the edges. I ended up getting my $$ back. This was the last one that I tried before going to the Apple Store and having them put one on.

The applicator for these really is clever and the price is right. At least for the ones that I got, the quality wasn’t there.

As a follow up, as there clearly is some confusion around who said what - I DID ask the Apple employee I was speaking too to install a Belkin screen protector to which she said "they couldn't do that as they where not trained" I'm not sure how much training you need, as it's literally the same process as previous generations. And "it cannot be done due to the Dynamic Island" or "Island thingy" as she expertly proclaimed. So she said I would have to install it myself with the self-install kit.

Which in hindsight is clearly bollocks, in a rush, I just ran through some scenarios and assumed they possibly could have just not had the jig yet in-store yet, or the 14 Pro is so advanced, the idea of applying a screen protector to this generations phone would require some black magic, and how ignorant must I be to ask such a stupid question. Which also in hindsight is mental, given the phones been out for 3 months and Apple is a trillion dollar company, I'm sure they could afford a couple of Jigs for their stores, but who am I to ask?

However, I've installed it with the self install kit thankfully first try with no dust which drives me mental, hence getting it done in-store to avoid any risk of cocking it up and going through even more tedium

So in conclusion, yeah it was nonsense and I should have really asked someone else in the store and revealed her to be an incompetent idiot, but it's Christmas

First world problems :)

What if I don't use screen protector? As far as I know apple is using corning gorilla glass 6 for their phones.
It's drop proof. What's your experience if you have used long term without screen protector.

I'm using my 14 pro max from last two weeks without any screen protector. Do I really need screen protector? Kindly answer pls
Depends on where you use your phone, if it’s mostly indoors (office, home etc) then as long as you are careful (because sometimes keys can scratch even gorilla glass) you should be fine. For me I am going to be both indoors and out both for leisure and professionally in environments I want to watch my phone carefully. I will be climbing mountains in my free time and my work place takes me to building sites etc. It’s just as far as I am concerned an extra layer of protection as my phone is a vital part of my connection to the outside world both professionally and personally

Corning Gorilla Glass is not "drop proof" and I don't think Apple has ever represented it as such.
It is shatter resistant.
Screen protectors aren't necessarily intended to be protection against drop damage as much as protection against wear and scratches.
That said, I can tell you that when I dropped my phone on gravel, the screen protector did crack, but there was no damage to the screen itself. 😀

Nothing is drop proof. Even with an amazing screen protector and a fantastic case, phones can be broken when dropped if they hit the wrong way. I think of screen protectors as more for preventing scratches than anything else. All of the cheap screen protectors on Amazon with product images showing it standing up to hammers and screwdrivers and knives are ridiculous.
