I've held on to my iPhone 7 with one battery swap two years ago. There's security updates that come through occasionally for iOS15, so no regrets. Most apps run fine, but battery life again is waning. Now... whether I jump first, or my wife with her XS jumps for the next iPhone with USB-C, I realized yesterday will require cable swaps in the car (Only one of two USB ports support Carplay), unless someone's created a USB-A dongle of some kind with both USB-C and lightning somewhere. Probably motivation to get both of us upgraded whenever that first switch happens.Honestly, yawn. Last year I upgraded from a Xs to a 14 Pro (carrier trade-in), and I actually regretted it, and still do. I should have just replaced the battery and saved my money until the Xs was unsupported.
Lately ive been thinking about what mobile device is jony ive currently using since he left apple tho.....Can we finally get rid of the camera bump? Jony Ive was very talented, but unlike Steve Jobs, Tim Cook could not reign-in Ive's worst tendencies (such as the camera bump, notch, rounded display edges, etc.).
Meanwhile my 14 Pro Max still struggles with the advanced task of trying to focus on the dizzying heights of QR Codes :/
Most of my acquaintances are “normals”, and most remain puzzled by the fact that lightning connectors and USB-C connectors are subtly different. And they certainly wouldn’t recognise the names of the ports. They know about “iPhone cables”, and they know that “USB” refers to that bigger connector that you and I call USB-A.I don‘t buy that argument. USB C has been around for so long now that politicians are talking about it. If people don’t know what USB C is, they’ve been living under a rock the past 6-7 years, especially since iPads and MacBooks have been using USB C for a few years now.
Once I can do all that without wearing ski goggles, maybe.
I have zero interest in virtual anything. When my phone goes in my pocket, or on my desk, I am disconnected and wish to stay that way. I don't watch movies or tv solo, so that is out. I don't game. I need my watch when I'm trail or road running, and I'm not doing that with a vision pro. The list goes on.
couldn't agreed more mate. idk wtf people see on current iphone camera (14 pro line up for example) that takes horrible photos, that over sharping crap is bullS**t, i do miss my iphone 12 pro max A LOT because it had the best camera before Apple destroyed it with that HDR software crap.Haha, sure, and in the end the software overdoes it again with aggressive post-processing that you can only reduce by indirection.
It's useful but not worth forking out any amount of money for.
My 13 Pro should last me a few more years.
I’ll probably upgrade from my 13 Pro Max. I like the idea of one port for all, but my two other household members probably won’t be on USB-C for a couple of years yet. It’ll pick up people who are ’due’ an upgrade but it looks very marginal vs the 14 pro. id love all my gadgets on usb-c but is that worth it?
If you can trade it now it’ll be worth more than a week later when they announce the newest generation. For those looking to get a 15 and trading in their existing iPhone. Will trade in values decrease immediately after the 12th Sept announcement?
i,e trade in iPhone before announcement or before launch without trade in value reducing?
my friend, i'm glad you here: quick question: what do you think about the software aggressively over processing the photos? you as a photographer how do you handle this?Coming from a photographer: stacked sensor has nothing to do with improved dynamic range or capturing more light.
Stacked sensors have faster readout speed, meaning they have less rolling shutter. This was basically never an issue with smartphone cameras, so I'm not sure what benefit it can provide, maybe they will spin it up with some marketing terms. In order for them to capture more light they need to use a larger sensor, or a brighter lens there is no other way.
Turning the notch into a suppository was no evolution at all. It removes more vertical screen space than the notch! There is very little innovating to be done in this space. It is clear because this is the star of the show almost every year other than when they got rid of the home button and turned the notch into an island.
But who wants to be without a phone for a few weeks? If you can trade it now it’ll be worth more than a week later when they announce the newest generation.
Hmm, that's interesting as I am still with trusty XS but find the camera underwhelming. But this summer I forgot (!) to take my DSLR on family holiday so my son stepped in with 13mini and I was pleasantly surprised that it has offered a few decent enough shots to print as 6x4 keepsake photos.Honestly, yawn. Last year I upgraded from a Xs to a 14 Pro (carrier trade-in), and I actually regretted it, and still do. I should have just replaced the battery and saved my money until the Xs was unsupported.
You can’t trade it for the 15 right now only the 14. You won’t be able to trade in your current phone for a 15 until the 15 pre-orders go live but at that time the value could be decreased so it’s a no-win situationIf you can trade it now it’ll be worth more than a week later when they announce the newest generation.
