I’ve been putting off a new iPhone for the past 2 years. Since last year, I’ve been looking at the innovation out there, and have been wondering if I should stick around or move on. I only chose to wait this year because of the USB C port that EU has forced on Apple.

I am seriously impressed with the latest Samsung offerings. I will wait for the official unveiling to know if I should purchase one or rather get a Samsung.

Bu Apple is lucky to have such dedicated consumers by their side because at the rate they’ve given us the same thing over and over, over the years, I think a lot of average Apple consumers are looking to bail out in the years to come.

Curious to learn what exactly impresses you?

My first smartphones were Androids, and at least back then, their usability was a mess compared to iPhones. That probably (hopefully) has changed, but Apple still has me with their excellent long-term support.

A this point, I mainly stay with iPhone because of iOS. I did a year on Android 10/11 and while it was better than I remembered, I went back to iPhone.

I think perhaps that because a lot of people substitute their phone for a computer/media device/game console/etc that they expect to be entertained.

IDK. I just use my phone for a few things that phones have been capable of doing for a long time now.

Samsung's S23 Ultra for example is an amazing phone as is the Fold if that is something you are into. I too hope that the iPhone 15 sports something impressive, but the leaks and rumors are not really showing any indication of that (personally). To make the switch to for me Samsung (or any other android producer) would need to seriously beef up their ecosystem, and unfortunately I think Google is the only one that truly could create a contender and they don't have a good track record with maintaining products/services.

I will give credit to Samsung for trying though with the partnership with Microsoft, but just the involvement of two different companies with different priorities just cannot match against what Apple currently offers. The latest and greatest tech that are in the Samsung's are impressive, but the few times I have tried to make the switch I found that I rarely used them and that I preferred cohesion among my devices rather than some special offerings like Dex Mode, while it is amazing you can turn your phone into a mini PC, there has literally never been a moment where I just had a monitor available and needed a computer if there was a monitor there was a PC or Mac attached to it and typically when I use a computer I need either the ports or the graphics card a computer has to offer.

While I agree the iPhone can easily feel stale, the stability and reliability in the connection of my Apple devices is what keeps me on iPhone and isn't necessarily the iPhone itself since like I said before I tried switching a few times and recently at that with the S21 Ultra and while I did enjoy the device, the work around to send my wife/family/friends high quality images and video and loss of airdrop (the main two reasons) coupled with I didn't care to customize the look on the device, although (so no one comments I didn't try hard enough) I did install ease of use/quality of life things like I can remember Nova Launcher, Gboard, and some others and while those did improve the use of the device the icons and widgets and stuff (maybe because I have been with the iPhone so long lol).

“Bail out”?

To Android? Not a chance in hell. The “same old thing” Apple offers me every year is doing great for me. Android has nothing spectacular or compelling enough for me to even consider leaving.
