Hi all,

Just picked up an iPhone 15 Pro, trading in my 14 Pro as part of a carrier deal. Love the phone, but I’m running into an infuriating issue with my car’s Bluetooth (2011 BMW 335i with iDrive nav and factory Bluetooth, module is known as a BN2000).

One of 3 things happens when placing a call:

Call is placed and connects, car shows an active call. After about 40 seconds the car looses connection from the iPhone, while the iPhone still shows as connected and sending audio to the BMW's Bluetooth.

Call is placed and connects, car still shows as "dialing". Completing the call using the end button in the interface has no effect. Ending the call on the iPhone does not update the car

  • still shows as an active call. After about 30 seconds the call ends on the car side, but the connection is lost on the car end - shows that the iPhone is connected but prompts to re-pair. The iPhone always shows as being connected.
Or: call is never placed, the car immediately disconnects from the iPhone while the iPhone shows as the car is connected.

The BMW Bluetooth module has been factory reset via the original BMW diagnostic software, and is running the latest software available from BMW. Just performed this, so perhaps that was the issue (both my 14 Pro and 15 Pro shared the same name).

Turning Bluetooth off and on (both car and iPhone side) only allows the two devices to connect and see each other. But it will return with one of the 3 above scenarios.

Did not experience any of these issues with my 14 Pro.

Bumping this with a link to the thread that’s going on over on the Apple Discussion forums (link here).

Just want to get the most amount of coverage. That thread has like 38 pages of content, about 45,000 views. So hopefully those experiencing issues will also be able to chime in here.

Yes! Both 17.2.1 at the time. Even tested on a fresh restore of 17.3 on the 15 Pro, no change.
Guess its down to BMW to update their stuff then or a combo as it seems quite widespread (hearing aids and other carbrands).
There have been some critical BT security flaws that's been patched a few times, maybe that messes things up and it needs to be fixed on both sides (guessing now). But what's strange is that in only seem to affect 15P

I know Android has similar issues a few months back when they released a number of BT fixes in the monthly updates.
Not sure if it could be related to BT versions as well. But if you BMW is from 2011 it prob as at least BT4.x so its not that old.

Hopefully Apple finds a workaround/fix that can be implemented via an update.

The chip inside is using Bluetooth 2.1. Old yes, but Bluetooth is backwards compatible. At least it’s supposed to be. I’m pushing engineers at Apple for an actual, technical response. BMW has confirmed that as long as the device pairs with the car, they are compatible.

This also happens on newer cars with Bluetooth 3.0. And not just BMWs either! Thread has the whole gamut of cars represented. From BMWs to Opels…

Confirmation of identical issue on Opel Insignia production year 2013 (similar to Buick Regal 2011).

Issue appeared from beginning, November 2023 when phone's been used.

Before that, I didn't have any similar issue with several Android phones.
