My iPhone 15 pro constantly drops out on wired apple carplay. I have no problems on any previous iPhone android phone and my wife’s new iPhone 15 works in the car. I tried multiple leads taping and holding and it drops out even when stationary. I went to the genius bar and as the device can charge they refuse to replace it. They say it must be my car. I got insurance from my carrier that allows me to get a replacement of same phone for any reason for $150. I am going to invoke that tomorrow again at genius bar. I can’t understand how there can’t be a fault in my phone if all other phones including the iPhone 15 work in my car. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds concerning. Not tried mine with CarPlay yet as wife has got the car at work. Got a few cables to try.
How quickly does it drop out?

I used my 15P wired into my carplay (2019 Ford Escape) with no issues. Drove 3+ hours with GPS and Pandora playing with no problems and no heat issues, nothing alarming.

Instantly on mine. I have an aftermarket carplay unit. It doesn’t do this on a newer car which my wife has. But I reckon unless just my iPhone 15 pro is faulty this could impact people with more basic carplay systems. And it only disconnects with iPhone 15 pro. A $100 android phone has a robust connection. I regret ever upgrading my iPhone 14 pro. Its a piece of garbage. And the Apple Store genius bar speak to me like im a moron.

Mine is a 2014 car. 2019 isn’t that old. I guess it’s either my phone which I think is the case or a problem for some cars

Return it.

I have a 2019 Tiguan, I’ll try in a bit and see what it does. I’ve got a couple of USB A to USB C cables so will try a couple.
Anyone have any good recommendations for short cables to use, that are A to C? Mine are about 30cm long and I need something short for long term use.

CarPlay not functioning properly is happening across many makes and model vehicles, mine included. I will be speaking to the tech again on Saturday when he is back in the office. If he does not have a resolution, my device will be going back and Ill use my 13PM again.

With an aftermarket unit there's no guarantee those will continue to work with updates. You most likely need to wait for the manufacturer of that unit to fix the issue and release an update.

However, since IOS 17 carplay has been unreliable for me as well, so it could just be bugs. It's very unlikely that there's an issue with your specific device unless you can actually see a hardware fault somewhere (like the port is loose). Paying $150 just to find out seems like a bad move right now.

Before the 15PM I had a 13PM and my wife still does. The 13PM has no issues on iOS 17.0.2 with CarPlay and connecting to the HU of the vehicle. The 15 sure does though. ITs about a 50/50 shot on if it will connect.

A bummer. Have you tried it with some different cables or adapters, as some of them seem to be working better than others?

I personally have tried with about 6 different cables to include Apple's own cables. No love.

Tried with a kindle USB A to C cable in my 2019 Tiguan. No issues - tried for about 15 minutes and didn’t experience anything.

Not sure if it takes longer for drop outs?

I have a 2021 Honda HR-V. Drops out from time to time. Wish it was able to connect via wirelessly.

How do you mean from time to time, for an example?
I only tried mine for about 15 mins as only got the phone today.
Is it like very periodic, every 5-10 mins or more like after an hour of driving?
It’s interesting to get a bit of individual usage case here, I’m sure I’ll see if mine is affected over the course of the next few days

I've had the car for a month now. Has happened maybe 5-10 times. Usually I'm driving with maps on the dashboard display and suddenly it turns black. I unplug the lightning connector and then plug it back in the phone (or the car) and it usually comes back on. Probably a faulty connector somewhere. Amazon sells a couple of DIY fixes that cost around $100 to get it 100% wireless. A bit too expensive for me. I'll just live with it.

Today was my heaviest day so far on CarPlay with the 15 Pro Max. I was in the car most of the day and used CarPlay in two different cars for a total of about 4 hours. Didn't have one glitch, even when using GPS in the city where it usually cuts out. My music never paused or so much as skipped, and nothing ever disconnected. That was on latest iOS and wireLESS CarPlay.

That’s a bummer. I have an aftermarket headunit and my 15P works as smoothly as my 13 Mini did on IOS 16 two weeks ago - both wired and wireless.
