iPhone 12 iPhone 15 Pro (from iPhone 12) - AT&T eSim question

I have read all the FAQs on eSIM but I must be slow because I still do not know what to expect when I get the 15 Pro.

Basically, when I turn on my 15 Pro, will it "just work" as my cell# or is there work I need to do.
