iPhone 15 Pro iPhone 15 Pro lens correlation

Can someone please explain to me the iPhone 15 pro lens correlation?

When I cover the bottom lens in 1x mode it blacks out the screen but it also darkens the screen when I cover it when using the 3x camera.

Maybe I’m just being dumb but I can’t figure out what lens correlates to what camera setting on the iPhone.

That’s because when you thought you were using the 3X the phone was really trying to use the 1X because it was too dark. That’s why covering the same lens made everything go black.
