I've been researching this extensively but haven't found a definitive answer. I own an iPhone 15 Pro and I'm interested in understanding which focal lengths utilize optical zoom rather than digital zoom. Additionally, I'm curious about the camera capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro Max in this regard.

0.5x, 1.0x, and 3.0x are the fixed distances of the 3 rear cameras. On the 15 Pro Max, instead of 3.0x it’s 5.0x.

1.2x, 1.5x, and 2.0x offer “optical quality” thanks to how the 48MP sensor works, but they are all software.

A 3x zoom photo on the 15 Pro Max is going to be a crop from the wide sensor.

Thank you! That helps a lot.
