I received my iPhone 16 Pro on 9/20. Restored my old phone into it...which took 2 hours. Since that time there have been 3 occasions (maybe 4) where there was a software update that I needed to do. It updates like any other update, then I'm greeted with the "Hola" or "Hello" screen as if I'm opening my phone for the first time. When I swipe up it tells me that my phone has been updated to iOS 18 (not 18.1 or 18.0.1)...and it's back to normal. Why is this happening and is it normal?

I had the same when I picked my phone up this morning. Although it is on 18 it insisted on an update I just went with it and it was fine.

Not sure why you would have had 3 or 4 updates already. There was an update for a newer build of iOS 18.0 waiting as soon as I activated the phone, but that was the only one.

My iPhone also sometimes welcomes me new to iOS 18 without an update, had this the whole beta phase from 18.0 Developer Beta 1 until now 18.1 Developer Beta 4. But not with that "Hello" screen in several languages. It's just a small message at the bottom saying something like "Your iPhone has been updated to iOS 18".

I don't use auto updates, just auto downloads and there wasn't any before.

Interesting... only after the update it asked me to enable "stolen device protection", even though i had it enabled on the old phone.

It's a minor build change. The devices are assembled in July/August with a risk start version of iOS 18.0. By the time iOS 18.0 gets the public green light for online distribution, Apple has already green lit it for production devices weeks ago. In this case, there were still minor changes between the two versions.

Yes there is an update to the Launch day version of iOS 18. They don't have the GA version from the September 16th Release. The update is small and is only for iPhone 16 (all models) with bug fixes and security updates.

Your notification is based on your Update settings.

I had the same behavior. It appears the setting did not move across to the new iPhone. I used Quick Start to move to my iPhone 16 Pro.
