I'm super frustrated. When I try taking photos with my new iPhone 16 Pro Max, the camera app often crashes, and the only way to fix it is an iPhone restart.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Upgraded from a 15 Pro Max, if that matters.

Same here. Same upgrade. Have to restart the phone. Annoying... relying on your camera and having to restart your phone first to be able to take a picture is not very premium...

I’m on 18.1 currently but when I first got my 16PM with ios 18 I had no camera crashes. I played around with it a lot as I got acclimated to that side camera button, which I now like, I didn’t at first. But no camera issues then or since.

It's not! I wonder what's causing it.

So upgrade to 18.1 Beta solves it?

Yeah. I created a thread on this and reassured to read this as supports the theory this is software and not hardware. It’s crazy how often this happens. Using camera causes phone to be slow/unresponsive and then crash.

I have been thinking of returning my 16PM while I still can. Its become nearly impossible to take a spontanious picture. People start mocking me saying is that a €1500 phone??? I’ve been using iPhones since iPhone 3G and this is my 12th iPhone and this has become my worst user experience ever. This is unacceptable!

I can’t say that 18.1 solves the issue since I’ve not had any camera issues, either on 18.0 initially nor 18.1 now, on my 16PM. I’ve come to really like that camera control button as it allows me to quickly trigger the camera for a spontaneous photo. At first I thought it was just a gimmick that I would rarely if ever use but it really is a significant convenience for those taking a lot of unplanned photos, or like me just not having to unlock the phone and doing a lot of tapping.

Happened to me too. Freezes and super buggy.
