Have the screen lock out set to four minutes but after two hours he screen is still open, it is darker but not closed
What setting am I missing?

Is Always On Display enabled? Maybe I don't understand what you are trying to achieve. But if you want the screen to go completely dark, then disable Always On Display.

Did you look at the Always On Display setting under Display and Brightness? What is or what was it set to?

It sounds like what you want to do is set Auto-Lock to four minutes and set Always On Display to off.

I don't care if the display is on her other Iphone (XR) you could set the time for display (4 minutes) and you wouldn't have to enter the passcode until 4 minute passed

The Screen Timeout setting is gone. That is on older OS versions there was a setting for Screen Timeout and the other for Auto-Lock. Screen Timeout is gone. Now you have Auto-Lock and Always on Display.

I don't know. I turned it off when I first got my 16 Pro.

I initially responded thinking you were complaining about the screen still being on, albeit dimmed, after two hours. I thought that is what you wanted to change.

I have auto-lock set to 30 seconds, but I assume if you set auto-lock to 4 minutes, and with Always On Display disabled, your screen will stay on for about 4 minutes then dim and turn off and the device will lock. My device screen doesn't quite stay on for 30 seconds, but close. Anyway, you can test.

Again, I may not fully understand what you are trying to do. My hope is that I at least help you find what you are looking for.

I have always on disable and auto lock set for four minutes...two hours later the screen is still on and no auto-lock

I have a 15 Pro Max. I have Always On Display turned off.

Settings --> Display & Brightness --> Auto-Lock -- (3 minutes for me). But 9.9 times out of 10, I hit the power button to turn off the screen when setting my phone down.

Please note that the phone uses a sensor to see if you are looking at it. So if you set it down next to you, it's going to think you're looking at it and keep the screen on. This is in the Settings --> Accessibility --> Face ID & Attention --> Attention Aware Features. ---- "iPhone will check for attention before dimming the display, expanding a notification when locked, or lowering the volume of some alerts."

So if you put your phone down on your desk - it's going to stay awake cuz it will see your face. Hence why I hit the power button 9.9/10 times to shut off the phone. Or put it on the desk face down (this turns off the display too).

Re attention aware, I have that enabled on 16 Pro and have no problem with display staying on. I often have phone face up on a desk next to me. In my experience, the device detects very accurately when I am looking directly at the display versus even looking but glancing away. The phone “seeing” me is not the same as me looking directly at the display. That’s my experience.

EDIT: @man00 to the point made by @BigMcGuire are you perhaps glancing at your phone to see if the display turned off or picking the phone up to look at it? I know this sounds basic, but I have to suggest laying it flat on a surface and not picking it up, just observing it from an angle. Maybe you are doing that, and if so I don't have any other suggestions right now.

Yeah my 15 PM does a good job of this too. Really something I’ve come to use a lot. Same here - phone usually on desk next to me.
