Here is a concept of a cheaper iPhone 16e apple could have released:

- 20 h of battery

- No action button

- A17 pro chip

- No extra mic iPhone 16 features like wind noice reduction

- No x2 optical zoom

And that’s it you have a cheaper iPhone 16e could also be called SE 4 !!

I think Apple wants to minimize the number of devices that use the A17 Pro - IIRC it's fabricated using TSMC's much more difficult 3 nm process compared with the A18 and A18 Pro, which was most of the reason why the A17 Pro only appeared in the 15 Pro/Pro Max and now the iPad mini 7. We also don't know if it is less expensive to produce than the A18.

The 2x optical zoom is just what the 48mp camera gives you - the photo is cropped in half. Perhaps you should suggest going back to the old 12 MP camera.

I'd say it's clear that Apple just doesn't feel it needs to be in the as cheap as it can market. They may lose sales, but minimally so, and revenues likely will not suffer much. If they do, they can pivot later.

U missed a plastic housing.

Dont think that the action button cost 1c more. Actually should be cheaper than the old one cos of simpler mechanism

This would make sense for markets like India, but I don’t think that would ever work in the USA.

I don’t see a market category for it. People that want an iPhone will pay for an iPhone. They’re not going to go for an android phone because it’s a little cheaper. People in the USA even poor people have money for $1200 iPhones.

The market segment that wants a cheap phone doesn’t care if it’s an iPhone. At that point you’re competing with $100 - $250 phones so even at $429, it’s a no sale. They can’t afford it. It’s just they don’t want it because they don’t value it as worth something.

it might work in India for some people that are not at the very bottom of the income bracket. They could possibly afford a $429 iPhone.
