After using ESR cases and a few others, I made a decision to get myself a leather case this time. Not too bad the one below. All the buttons work well and I know that it’s not going to be the very best for drop protection, but this was good enough for my needs.

The Black TW (dark gray) and Deep blue works but the Blue TW and Deep Blue looks great! I highly recommend that combo, the best one when it comes to TW on Deep Blue in my opinion.
trust me I would have gotten the blue if it was in stock (and of course it's in stock now at the store I purchased my phone at). but I want the blue on blue without a doubt. But of course you can't ever go wrong with a black case, matches everything.

I think it’s worth noting that Apple’s cases do, in fact, provide drop protection. They don’t make ridiculous claims like so many third-party manufacturers, but there’s no doubt they do lots of testing. Their goal has always been reasonable drop protection balanced against feel and weight.
We know the Beats Rugged provides drop protection. But from a chest high drop I would trust my Sheath or Paragon way way more than the Apple Silicone.

That’s nifty. What’s the link?

All cases exist on a spectrum from very little to extreme drop protection. The Apple/Beats cases in general fall somewhere near the middle of that range. The Caudabe cases may be slightly more protective, but they’re not at Phone Rebel or Mous level, not even close.

Right as I said before if I was in the sh*t I would want a Mous.

Its really nice 👌🏻.

And the magnets are perfect which is what was wrong with my previous order.

But i have soft spot for Sheath lol.
Have seen what I assume, because of the username, one of your Paragon’s for sale on eBay…. Has this got the backwards magnets? If not, what’s wrong with it?

Well, I will say with my iPhone 16 Pro Max and the Phone Rebel Gen6, that thing did protect my phone well. Not a drop, but a very angry me, and not thinking, I chucked my phone at a wall. It hit one wall, bounced off that, hit a second wall, and then fell onto the floor. A little scuffage on one of the case corners, the top edge of the case, and that was all. No damage to the phone. The wall... yeah, that was another issue. Two holes I had to patch up. And no, I was not taking pictures to demonstrate the case's protection.

I will not be trying that with my 17 PM...not that I intended to test the 16...

I am loving my PR Gen 7! Excellent grip and feel in the hand. I didn't get the extra buttons, since the old ones still work for this, so I may swap out the orange action button for the silver one I had on my Gen 6. I did like the stand on my ESR, but compared to the PR, it is thinner and lighter than the ESR Cloud, which I wasn't expecting.
Big fan of the Gen 7. Was a huge fan of the Air this year but the side grip things kinda bugged me (sensory issue) on the Air. The G7 keeps those dots for the side grips but they feel less annoying. Only thing I wish they did was have a G7 without the Aramid back, if it was the same as the Air with everything that would be awesome. As it is right now, the 7 is the case I keep coming back to.

I do have a Paragon on the way at some point but not so sure about that. I don't mind the wait.

I got my third Sheath yesterday and the seams were normal on this one. More visible on one side but not pointing out and I couldn't feel them on my palm. It is a huge difference holding the phone in hand, previous ones felt like you have a pebble in your shoe - it doesn't make it impossible to walk but it's annoying and you feel it there all the time. But sadly I'm returning it - it's bent outwards for some reason, has some stain on the back that doesn't want to go away and the main reason is that this one and the previous one both make squeaky sound when I hold the case on the sides. When you press harder it sounds like I'm pressing a button, but that is not a common situation. When I just grip the phone in hand to press the power button I can feel the squeak an it doesn't feel right, let alone premium. After trying out 3 Sheats for the base 17 it's really disappointing that QC isn't top of the game for the price. I am rocking a Paragon and no issues there so I know they can make a perfect one, even though it was perfect on 2nd attempt. But for Sheath sadly it's game over.

And I don't know what to get instead, I'm thinking I should've gotten the Pro model because a bunch of manufacturers I'd give a shot to don't make base 17 variants/don't have certain models available for it/have CC cutouts and I prefer the symmetry. On my previous phone Sheath was no.1 and no.2 was Mous. I was hoping this year Mous would have a more curved back following the shape of the phone, I had Limitless 5.0 Speckled Fabric and I loved the case but it was a bit uncomfortable and chunky to hold. They have a sale right now so it's tempting. Rational part of me feels like I should just be switching between Apple Silicone (there is no Apple care in Croatia so I'm 'stressed out' using the phone outside) and Paragon, but I know myself - I'll be tempted to buy something else especially since the Sheath didn't work out 😅

Wow sorry you can’t get a good Sheath copy. I have both the Sheath and Paragon and I’m starting to like the Paragon better.

With that being said you can go wrong with the Apple Silicone. IMO it’s the benchmark on how a case should be for the specific model, which for me is the 17 Pro. Perfectly aligns with the form factor of the iPhone.

The reason I’m not running the Apple Silicone and running the Paragon is because I want more drop protection. I consider the Apple Silicone least, then the likes of the Sheath / Paragon in the middle , then the likes of the Mous / Phone Rebel for ultimate drop protection.

Well, whaddya know… look what just arrived at my doorstep, despite DPD claiming it was sent back 😂 Looks like it was just misrouted somewhere along the way.

It comes in a gorgeous package btw… The prettiest one, yet.
Can’t wait for your first impressions compared to the quintessential Beats. Always looked a bit too chunky to me but YMMV.
