It’s a dummy model for case manufacturers…yes. But honestly, I’m not a fan of the new look. Cases “could” be ugly on the phone. I’m only interested in the telephoto camera, a 3.5x 48mp camera. Great for portraits but only if the sensor gets a size-able upgrade to match the 1x camera sensor & get rid of the f/2.8 ratio, replace it with f/2.0, then I’ll upgrade. Otherwise I’ll keep my two 16 pro max iPhones for another year. Something I’ve never done. I’ll know in a few months

Obviously that’s a dummy unit… but is this how clear cases will look on the 17 Pro with the Apple logo way off centre?! 😳

The dummy phones are everywhere on the net now. This one looks much better than the original post in this thread though:

16 Pro Max on the left, and 17 Pro Max on the right.

(The 16 Pro Max in this comparison seems like it also is a dummy phone since it's missing the logo, but I'll note there is a faint Apple logo visible in some of the other angles of the 16 Pro Max in that video.)

Me either. I will probably end up getting it but the bump getting bigger for no reason is strange. Now if they put a little display in there to show that you have a notification or use it like a mirror to take a 48mp selfie…

Yeah. Cool idea. I’ll get one also, not sure of the color. I’ll keep one of my 16 pro max iPhones until I get a second 17 pro max (if it’s that good). The 3.5x 48mp is supposed to have a larger sensor as pictured below.

However I take 48mp selfies all the time. Hold the iPhone about 10” from your face, look for the reflection of your mouth & nose in the glass of the camera and you’ll be framed just fine. I usually take the selfie with the iPhone horizontally. The continuous AF keeps your face in focus. If your photo is too bright, set a -.7 to -1 EV to compensate.

I'm not really bothered about the tiny details of the aesthetics to be honest when I buy a phone. I get one every couple of years and this year I am halfway through my upgrade cycle, so won't be getting a 17 Pro Max this time around. Maybe I will pick one up the following year on discount, as I got a 16 Pro Max last year and sort of realised I probably should have gone with a 15 Pro Max, seeing as it would suit my usage the same.

I wonder if Apple are continuing with this awkwardly placed camera control button this year? I only use it to open AI search as using it for the camera is useless for me due to my fingers not being long enough to reach around and see the whole display. It is also really fiddly to use in my experience so I tend not to bother trying it often.

Yes!! I mean we won't know until apple tell us but Ijust don't get why there's not more talk on this?
If you go up just a couple of posts, you’ll see my photo of the screenshot that I got showing the new camera sensors on the 17 pro series. They had to move the Lidar & flash all the way to the right to make room for the larger sensor Module for the telephone photo lens. The module for that lens and sensor face is downward now instead of horizontal, and it would have gotten in the way of the Lidar sensor.

If the blue rectangles in this image represent the sensors, that means the telephoto camera will take horizontal pictures when the phone is held vertically.

That’s a big change. I wonder what it implies and why it was done.
We can’t go by that. Those are just photoshopped overlays to demonstrate comparative sensor sizes. I believe the changed orientation for the tele sensor is a mistake by the person who added the overlay.

Obviously they are Photoshopped overlays (not least because in reality the telephoto sensor must be offset from the lens centre by the tetraprism scheme).

I guess it boils down to whether this image is made up or based on an image of the known iPhone 17 Pro Max internal structure.

If it accurately show the 17 Pro Max cameras structure, I would bet that the sensor orientation will indeed be rotated 90° compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. I say this because there are technical reasons you don’t want to fold the light lengthwise in the prism layout.

Maybe @ToddH can tell us more about the source. I found nothing sensible by searching for “Nammos Store”.
