Hey everyone,

With the iPhone 17 series dropping soon, I’m torn between the iPhone 17 Pro and the Pro Max, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I’m a heavy user, so the Pro Max’s battery is tempting, but is the size trade-off worth it? What’s your take on battery life vs. portability? I’m coming from a 16 pro max and would like a smaller phone for one hand usability, but am concerned that I may miss the battery life and screen size of the max.

What is everyone going for this year?

For me neither one. I’m going with the iPhone 17 Air if it’s released like rumors say.

Why because the screen will be close in size to the larger Max size iPhone. It will be a lot lighter and thinner. I thought about going to the regular iPhone (same size as the Pro) but I like the larger screen.

Trade off will be camera. Clearly you can’t put a huge camera bump onto a thin phone.

I don’t take that many pictures. Who knows this might be an excuse for me to buy a DSLR.

Also battery life because thinner phone means less space for a battery.

I’m coming from a 14 Pro Max so I’m probably not giving up that much in the battery life department. If you’re coming from a 16 Pro Max, then you have to ask yourself. Do I need this much battery?

17 Pro. My 16 PM is too big and heavy.

This is the almost the same discussion every year since the 6+

You have plenty of this posts to find arguments:

^^^^ this is me!

All these years with the heavy, bricklike feel on my belt, the Pro and Pro Max are going away!

I carry 2 Pro phones on my belt and can't wait to switch both to the 17 Air.

2 Pro phones felt like I was wearing an all steel sidearm.

I’ve gone big since the 6s+ and I will never go smaller. I don’t mind typing with both hands and even though I’m a woman I love the size, it’s just perfect. But my phone is my main device, I manage my entire life on it and never touch my MBA since a medical issue cost me my wfh job.

My epiphany about the weight happened when my brother handed me his regular iPhone 12 to look at. If he let me I would’ve traded my 14 Pro Max on the spot. I was amazed by how it felt in my hand.

People talk about the screen but for my eyes it looks so close not to make a difference.

Every time I pick up my iPhone X, I (still) don’t think the display is too small. While I don’t regret trying a Pro Max, I very likely won’t be choosing it again next upgrade.

Easy choice, standard. One reason I left Pixel was because they increased the size. I don’t necessarily want mini sized phone, but not larger than the iPhone 14 I have now. I think a tad smaller, say 1/4” or 3/8” would be better.

Two eye surgeries drove me to the PM, otherwise I would buy iPhone Pros. Battery differences Pro versus PM are not something I would care about.

I will definitely go with the 17 Pro Max. Had the Pro Max for the 12 and the 15 and like the bigger screen. Don't want to shift to a smaller screen.

I am going for PM this year. last year switched to the Pro but miss the battery in the max and screen size so switching back.
