iPhone 1st Gen and EDGE symbol

Hi I have 2 firs gen 8GB iPhone, they're both unlocked and jailbroken, now one of them shows the Edge symbol quiete often, when the other one doesn't, and with the same simcard.
Is there a way to turn on/off the EDGE? or is something wrong with my phone?
I'm out of my country now, so I can't use EDGE services, even though in one iPhone the EDGE appears and in the other one doesn't...

Any help?

Actually yes. I just found it... is an option in Settings - General - Network - Data Roaming it should be on, then EDGE WORKS!!
