Hey guys.

There are many who say that the upcoming iPhone will have a major design change in 2020. Notchless, barely frame, etc.

BUT. After all, it's likely to become an S model after the annual cycle, and these tend to have few changes.

So you reckon with the bigger change in 2020 or 2021?

There’s no reason why they couldn’t have the 11s be the normal consumer upgrade next year, and the flag ship Pro model be an iPhone 12. Heck they launched the 8 and completely skipped up all the way to X. With 8s,9,9s, nowhere to be found.

I read somewhere recently where Tim Apple or someone high up said they’d be no more “S” models. It may not be correct though as I can’t find the source.

The old tick tock cycle of new design + S revision last occurred with the 5 + 5s. Since then they've been on a 3 year cycle with respect to design (6, 6s, 7 and X, XS, 11). In my opinion the naming has been a bit stupid through these cycles.

Given the very strong rumours that we'll see an updated iPhone SE based on the iPhone 8 next spring, the lineup will likely change to:

iPhone 11 Pro
iPhone 11
iPhone XR
iPhone SE

I feel like that could easily be simplified to:

iPhone Pro
iPhone
iPhone XR
iPhone SE

They're really not far from dropping the numbers and 'S' names. Whether they do that though, who knows.

Anyway, I'd wager that if they keep the number in the name, that Fall 2020 we'll see an updated design and they'll call iPhone 12. But the more I think about it, this new design (which sounds very similar to the 2018 iPad Pro) I bet will be for the Pro iPhone only, and the iPhone 11 will get refined with the existing Face ID setup / design but with an OLED display.

Those are click-bait rumours. A refreshed SE retaining the 4” display size is never going to happen.

But a refreshed iPhone 8 will. It will be Apple’s “SE” as a low cost alternative as the SE once was.

Umm.. did you read what you quoted from my post? We’re saying the same thing, that an updated SE will be based on the iPhone 8 design.
