I have a 2g iphone 1.1.4. My last download was pocket guitar, after which i switched off phone( held sleep wake button for 5 secs, then a slide power off). Upon trying to power up again, i see only the apple logo, nothing else happens till power drained off. if i hold sleep/wake and home buttons simultaneously for more than 7 secs, it powers off again. nothing else happening. i have softwares iSMS, ilog and SIMport installed besides some games etc.
I have itunes version 7.6.2.9 installed, and that does not show iphone connected. this has been an old issue, much before i installed all the apps.

Please advice what i can do to restart the phone.

Power it off by holding both buttons until it is powered off. Then hold the home button while you connect to iTunes. Make sure iTunes is open while you connect. iTunes should say an iPhone has been detected in recovery mode and it needs to be restored. Restore it and your problem should be fixed.

Thanks David,
when the iphone does restore via itunes, do i lose data that has been previously stored? if yes, how can i back it up? Or is it deemed lost?

Some more questions
1.If the phone has to be programmed afresh via itunes, what all software goes in and how do i install it?
2. Is it possible to have the same 1.1.4 version installed and how do i go about installing it?
3. Is it ok to uninstall my old itunes vers 7.6.2.9, and reinstall same vers as have the exe.file of the same, and then proceed?

Many thanks for the reply

Answers on order of questions:

If you synced before this happened, you hve a backup that you can backup with after you restore.

By software do you mean firmware? If so, the current version of the firmware goes on the device, currently 2.2.1.

To use the same firmware, you will have to find the .ipsw file somewhere online. There is a website, but I can't remember what it is, that has a firmware versions to iPhone and most from iPod Touch.

Hello David,

reinstalled itunes vers 7.6.2.9 on laptop, connected to itunes while holding hold button. itunes asked to restore, and iphone showed the usb logo and the itunes logo. thereafter a warning message on itunes- 'You will lose all songs and data in iphone upon restore' etc. I clicked 'ok', then another message pops up, saying iphone cannot be restored as itunes could not find the software for restoring itunes. the second time i tried the same steps. this time the itunes pops up a message, reads- 'itunes could not contact the ipod update server because you are not connected to the internet'. 'make sure your internet connection is active and try again.' All this, while i am sending you this message over the net.
Please guide
Thanks

Hi, i just tried again by closing itunes app, then restarted it, connected iphone holding the HOME key, this time the itunes recognized the phone. Upon pressing 'restore' the message reads exactly like this- "There was a problem downloading software for the iphone 'iphone'.The requested source was not found".
All this while i see the itunes logo and the usb cable on the iphone screen.
Trying to give you max info, so you are aware whats going on.

Please help
