So first the first time in my life, i hold a first generation iPhone and compare it with my 3G S....roflmao...

The 1st generation feels like a toy...it does not feel like real metal at all...my 3G S feeels smoother and so much better then the hand then the 2G..

I do not know where you guys get this "2G feels alot better". Imo, no it does not..

I actually agree with you. I used the first gen for almost a year and couldn't believe that people were upset about the new design. It's just a better form factor all around. It looks better and feels better in the hand.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Disagree. I had the 2G for 2 years, and it feels a lot more solid and well built, IMO. But to each his own.

I agree. I currently use the 2g (1st gen) and I feel that is is built much better. But a friend of mine prefers her 3g over my 2g. I think it is just a matter of opinion. :)

I love your sig, but i have to ofc disagree on u :p....the 2G just feels wierd..like it actually feels like a cheap plastic..the 3g feels more like it will shatter on dropping contact though.

my OG iphone definitely feels rougher than my 3G, but i credit that to the fact that the OG phone has got cracks in the glass

i still have my 2g sitting at home as well as my 3gs on my side at all times.. my 2g is a lot less "toy like" than my 3gs.. having a metal back and being flat on the back makes the phone edgy.. however, the 3gs fits my hand a lot better naked phone to naked phone comparison.. it was a little weird for me to get used to at first so i ran out and bout a incase slider so it felt just like my old one did. ;)
now i am rocking a mophie juicebox air and sporting my Brick of an iphone that will run for 2 days.

If you never bought the 1st Gen in 2007/8 then you will never appreciate it. For me, the 1st Gen has been the best phone ever, simply because it set a standard.

It is true that the 1st gen did set a standard, I paid $400 for mine and enjoyed it. However its design was a bit clunky compared to what we have now and the signal was never as good as what I get on my 3G and 3GS.

For me its the other way around. I get great AT&T coverage here in New Orleans, but overall, voice quality is still better over my 1st Gen. Why? Well, one important factor is AT&T's 2G network is still on 850MHz where as the 3G is in 1900MHz.

That's correct! I bough my first gen in Feb 2008 which was a 16 gig which I then sold in July 2008 to get the new 3G. I have regretted selling that fist gen a lot! I then sold my 3G to get the 3GS but I don't care about that one as the 3GS is basically the same but better. I still drool over every time I see a first gen, it really was sexy, and had a wow factor bigger than everything before or after, at least for me.

Wow Did your 3gs come with those bragging rights lol and did you honestly "role on the floor & lagh your ass off" Seems a tad extreme!!;)

my 3g wins on performance however i preffered my 2g look and feel
just my opinion :D

I prefer the form factor of the 3G, but The textured aluminium back of the first-gen, was definately more tougher. Plus, it meant that the device wasn't as slippery as the 3G is.
I also liked the thinner gap, from the edge of the display(not the glass) to the the chrome bezel, on the first-gen.
The curved back of the 3G, makes it feel a lot thinner, when in the hand and definately feels better in that regard.

I gave the wife the 2G and I have the 3GS but prefer the style of the 2G. Now only if the guts from the 3GS could be put into the 2g housing.

I appreciate the 1st generation. Any iPhone is of greatness, but i still think the 3G Sjust feels more elegant....I don't know..maybe because the 2G is quite old and beaten now compared to back in 2007 =)

I must chime in.

I'm torn between the 2. I like some of the iPhone 3G design and some of the original iPhone design.

3G: I like how the whole back is one piece
Original: I like how it has a flat metal back
3G: I love the louder speakers and metal mesh
Original: I like the skinnier screen
3G: Headphone jack is flush
Original: Buttons feel more solid (especially the silent switch)
3G: Easier to take front apart
Original: I prefer the thicker chrome bezel

While the 1st gen feels better in my hand IMO, it was very slippery and easy slipped off without a case. The 3G and 3GS backs are less slippery and nicer to hold too.

In the limited time I spent playing with an iPhone 2g I loved the feel of the design over my 3g. It's bigger sure, but it also feels more solidly built. I really hope that Apple can incorporate an aluminium design into the new iPhone - something to go with the new Macbooks.
