I have a jailbroken iPhone 2G.

I checked for updates for ***** and giggles and it tells methere is a new update out doing somethign wiht the service provider or hatnot.

So here it is, exactly step by step of what I do.

I press update and htis message comes up:

'An update to the carrier settings is available for your iphone. Would you like to update now?'

I click 'Update Settings'. then after a couple of seconds of loading it says this:

"iTunes coudl not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. An unknown error has occurred. (0xE800003D). Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"

What's up with this?

This is why we don't advise jailbreaking or unlocking. If our iphone wasn't on the carrier you wanted or lacked a few features you desired. You shouldn't have purchased it.

You should restore your settings and work the phone properly.

Who's we? If you are talking about the people on this forum, I think a lot would disagree. Many people on here are fine with jailbreaking and unlocking and even support it!

I don't see an HTC Touch letting me play NES games. I don't see a Blackberry Storm allowing Wifi. I don't see a LG Dare allowing copy/paste. I love the iPhone, and i love hte jailbreak.

Do I have incredible themes? No. What I do have are the basics. Clippy, cycorder,SSH,NES and several sources.

No Winterboard.
No crazy little games.

Don't reprimand me for trying to make my life a little bit easier, with Apple not listening to our suggestions.

Are you unlocked on a different network. This update was for AT&T.

David

I am currently on the AT&T network.

Well, I applaud you for making the your iPhone better. I have also done so.:)

If you are on the AT&T network, I have no other suggestions. This seems strange to me. One more thing though, this could be related to the version of firmware you are using. What iPhone Firmware are you running?

David

Thank you for quick reply.

I am currently running the newest version. I had to restore, and rejailbreak everything to do it.

Mind you, this is a iPhone 2G, and I thought I saw a thread somewhere around here that was talking about it and how it related a lot of things with the 3G.
Maybe it doesn't apply?

Wasn't reprimanding you. Though we really try hard at apple to get what has been most requested into the latest release's. We put ourselves into these situations cause our customers are spoiled by how much we give them for the price along with the added beautiful UI.

You won't be disappointed in the next version. Nor have a need to risk software interruptions with pointless jailbreaking.

You guys at Apple made a beautiful phone. you guys at Apple made beautiful things inside the phone. You guys have a wonderful price.

What I don't understand is why we are considered spoiled by a price you guys set. If you guys odn't specify to our needs (and trust me, a lot of our needs are one in the same...and have been the same) we find a way to fulfill ourselves, case in point: Dev Team, jailbreaking and yellowsn0w.

We appreciate every little thing you people at Apple do. Now, if you have a problem because we are 'spoiled', you shoudln't be offering your phone at such an incredible price.

While I understand that coming up with new versions may be easy to come up with and hard to create, but spending my money on your phone, and your service (well AT&T,excuse me if you don't get at least some kind of portion from them), we have every right to keep asking of new and exciting features.

If you can't give me what I want or need, I will find a way to get it myself.

I'm sorry if I sounded a bit repetitive, but it's been a long day, and I'm just trying to figure out what's wrong with my phone. And please don't take this as me getting mad at you guys, you always make great products.

BTW, I am looking forward to this new version coming. I hope it comes soon, so I can get rid of jailbreaking as you have said.

What's the risk? Need to repair? Restore. Can't restore? DFU or recovery mode.

Pointless to some, but helpful to others. Oh well.

Are Apple Employees even allowed to post here? I was at the Apple store chatting with a salesman about if he knew if that store was going to receive the remodel. His response was that he didn't know and if I saw that on MacRumors. I said yes and asked him if he posted, he said he wasn't allowed to since he works for Apple, but he's on it all the time.

And, I don't know if Apple would really like you saying that. It seems like Tim Cook, Phil Schiller, and Steve Jobs are happy to give us new features and I don't remember them ever once calling us spoiled. I do remember Steve Jobs being very happy when he was announcing the iPhone 3G for the new, incredibly low price. So if you really do work for Apple, I think you are expressing feelings that some executives would rather you not express.

David

I don't think this guy truly works for apple, but is more a troll. I mean even if any of us did work for Apple I don't think we'd be trying to show that off in every one of our posts. I call troll?

Now that the "Battle" is over :), has anyone figured out how to get the update to work? I've got a jailbroken 3g on AT&T.

TIA guys... Peace!

Solution to Problem

Your issue with taking the update is you must have changed your AT&T carrier icon through your jailbreak. The update does some change with the carrier icon and so uninstall the specialized carrier icon back to the traditional AT&T, and the install should take.

Confirmed, The custom AT&T logo is causing problems... I had this error till I removed it from cydia.

Thanks martin49er!

Hi all -
I have an iPhone 3G that I just upgraded today. It's NOT jailbroken - and I'm getting the same 0xe80000ed error as the OP.

This thread is literally the only hit for that error on Google.

Any suggestions?

EDIT:
meh - I just forced it into DFU mode and re-installed the new image. It came back, found the carrier update, and put it in just fine this time 'round. Restoring as we speak....

I have the same issue

I have put off installing the 2.2.1 upgrade until today and have been ignoring the carrier update. After upgrading to 2.2.1 I tried the carrier update and it failed with this error code. My phone is jailbroken and has been for some time. I removed the carrier logo and tried the update still failed. I even removed "extended preferences" since it has the fake carrier field. Any other thoughts?
