I've heard that it is possible to remove the data from the iPhone 2g (EDGE), is this true? If so I've also heard that it removes the ability for text messaging. I am on a family plan with unlimited texting, this would still give me my texting ability wouldn't it? I am at university with WiFi everywhere, there is no reason for me to have EDGE and pay the extra per month. I do not need Visual Voicemail or MMS.

So if we were to remove the data plan from the iPhone and put a WIX block on it to prevent data transmission (which my old phone had and could still do normal texts), would this allow me to have the iPhone 2G with no data plan, texting, and no worry of unnecessary fees?
