So guys what do you think the 2nd Gen iPhone has in store for us?

I will not be buying a 1st gen but I may be interested in a 2nd gen when/if it comes out...

I know it is VERY early to be talking about the next iPhone as the 1st is not even released yet, but I thought what the heck...

I though I had heard a few sources saying that Apple was working on a cheaper model...

Much like the iPod has come down in price from the original...

So CHAT AWAY! :D

I expect 3G with a camera on the front.

Larger storage, I would say up to 24Gb top end.

Support for acting as a remote over the network or bluetooth for applecomputers/appleTV. Maybe come with the first gen depends.

My guess would be, 3G and EDGE plus larger storage. I think storage would be the biggest interest.

I am not saying the common things that people are asking about, like removable battery ... until we see a released version.

+1 on 3G and more storage...

The main reason I am waiting is because the current iPhone will be using EDGE

Ideally the next gen would have front-facing video camera (standard on high end phones outside of the USA)... GPS is another plus (already in a few HP Windows mobile phones) and of course, 3G (in most phones over $300 already).

Fun features...

fm/xm radio
laser projected virtual keyboard
carl-zeiss vario sonnar 5mp camera!!!

24 GB is unlikely since NAND doubles... as in 1 -> 2 -> 4 -> 8 -> 16 - > 32 GB.

I think 3G (HSDPA), front video camera are definitely a go (along with iChat). I also expect/wish GPS, 802.11n, and further software refinements/new applications.

it doesnt need to have anything else, as long as it expands to other networks.. cuz jeeze.. i really dont want to have to switch.. bt i guess ima have to..

if apple wants to be "all that" with technology

i expect Wifi ABGN, BT 2.1 EDR, 4G (3G is almost out of date, 3.5 G and 4G are ready for production), front facing video cam (like most video capable phones have), 3-4MP camera, infrared to control consumer products like TVs etc, high powered LED flash + flashlight, SDK to be publicly avalible, laser keyboard

untrue, to get 24GB you have 3x 8GB flash chips

Plan on waiting. Because if apple releases a 6th gen ipod (if this isn't considered one) that will be after the iphone.

Then the iphone 2G will be after that. way after that.

Probaly late 2008 / early 2009 for the iPhone 2G...

The 1st one isn't even out yet...lets see what this one needs fixed first

Already people are complaining about lack of 3G, GPS and limited capacity. So logically those are the things that will most likely be addressed for 2nd gen iPhone. So I am expecting 3G enabled iPhone with a decent GPS and doubled capacity (8 & 16GB) with possibly better battery in the same shell a year or so from now. The rest of the improvements will likely be in software and programs rather than in hardware.

As much as I would like to have some of those improvements (16GB capacity) right now I'll be damned if I will abstain from buying one for a whole year just because of it. I'll get the current version ASAP and when the new version comes out I'll get that one too. Life is too short to wait a whole year for something this cool.

Sigh, it won't be coming to Asia till next year anyways. So, most prob by the time it arrives it will be the 2nd generation. In that case, I just want 3G and a nice camera. Resolution doesn't matter lol as long as the lens is good :D Oh and having the ability to video chat in iChat would be cool too

I think Apple will fire out another iphone before the end of the year. Their first million will go pretty fast, based on world interest. Considering the lack of product announcements at WWDC, I would say they are preparing the market for a full on assault on the iphone when it is out. Its not like they havent done something like this before. MBP Merom-> Napa occured in 6 months. Plan on waiting about 5 months for a 3g version due to popular demand.

Hypothetically speaking, yes. Practically speaking, no. 3 NAND chips will require additional space and I don't see Apple doing that. None of the existing NAND-based iPods use more than 2 chips. Heck, none of the existing Macs have odd number of RAM slots.

I will be getting a 1st gen iPhone, as been stated a lot of the work will be in software form that may or may not have updates. Any hardware issues brought up are not that big to me. 3G would be nice, space would be nice too, but I have my 80G iPod and usually listen to the same few albums. GPS would be great for me and my ol' man to go out caching with. But I think hardware wise the iPhone is solid. I really hope the opening to developers will help make some really killers apps.

I figure the 2nd Gen phone will be known by the time the 1st Gen hits Oz.

And yeah, GPS, iChat, 3G, better camera, bigger capacity (16GB), better battery life, BT stereo headphones with controls...
