Forgive me if this has been covered--I looked but couldn't find. My iPhone has suddenly been having terrible connection problems. It started maybe a month ago; perhaps around the time of the 2.2 update. Applying the update seemed to help briefly, then back to being crap. I'm in Ann Arbor, MI. My brother in San Diego says his 2G (by which I mean the orig edge-based iPhone) has been having similar problems in the same timeframe. My wife's AT&T blackberry has NOT been having problems. Anybody know what might be going on?

Haven't called AT&T yet. I'm reluctant to waste my time since phone companies never admit to coverage problems in my experience.

The number of bars is meaningless. Put your phone into Field Test mode by dialing *3001#12345#* and sending. Then your bars will change to numeric values, showing the dB signal strength. Tapping the number will bring back the bars. Tap the bars will bring back the numbers.

Keep track of where your -dB gets too large (lower #'s are better) and you lose signal.

At least then you will have some ammo when you call AT&T.

As for me, my 3G is stable. 2.2 did not change anything for the worse.

I would recommend a backup, restore-as-new-phone, and restore from backup. Seems to cure a wide range of ills.
