iPhone 2G won't work/turn on

Hey guys,
So I have a 1st Gen broken iPhone, in the sense that when I plug it in and try to restore, I get the apple logo and soon after the loading bar as well. Right after, however, the phone goes black and I get an error on iTunes. I cannot turn the phone on. Anyone have an idea of what is wrong with the phone? Thanks..

Did this just happen for no reason? Perhaps restore in DFU mode?

I tried DFU already, got the phone from a friend. When I restored before, the logo wouldn't even come up. Now it will, perhaps a bad battery?
