I'm assuming this is new in 3.0 because I've never noticed it before, but I guess it could be older. You can now (allegedly) sync your calendars over the air with MobileMe and choose to sync them via iTunes. I tried to get it to work with my Birthdays calendar, but the actual info isn't moving across. Here are screen shots of iTunes and my iPhone calendar area. Any ideas on what to do?

I did a little more testing and it turns out this behavior is confined to the Birthdays calender. Any other iCal calendar (including subscribed ones) sync as expected.

You can subscribe to the birthday calendar (as described here) by publishing the calendar to yourself. (I know you've already seen the link, just pointing this out for others). I didn't even try syncing manually in itunes, since I would want everything to keep syncing over the air.

If you go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Fetch New Data>Advanced>you can set individual subscribed calendars to fetch. Then you can set fetch data to update every hour.

That's pretty slick. Great tip.

One thing I noticed after subscribing to the Birthdays calendar is that now there is a dot under every day (in Month view), even when there is no event on that day.

Now here's another interesting (read: annoying) thing: I can't seem to get the hard-synced (via iTunes) calendar off my phone now. I uncheck calendar syncing and the blank "All on my Mac" calendar with the green dot it still there, only now it's called "All on my iPhone."

Weird.

How are you navigating to the Calendars page on your iPhone (your second screenshot that shows your Mac and MobileMe calendars)? Under calendar settings (Settings-->Mail, Contacts, Calendars) the only choices are New Invitation Alerts, Sync, Time Zone Support, and Default Calendar. I don't see any screen that lists my MobileMe calendars. Thanks.

This also happened to me.

After the Sync, I have three possible "Contacts" choices on iPhone : "All Contacts", "Contacts on my Mac" and "Contacts on my MobileMe".

If I choose "All Contacts" I see, obviously, all the contacts duplicated.

I have not found yet the way of eliminating those "from my Mac", even if I have excluded the synchronization of them in iTune.

On your iPhone, turn contacts push off and wait a minute, then turn it back on and tell it to merge the contacts. That fixed it for me.

It's in the actual Calendar app. Touch the "Calendars" navigation button in the upper left part of the screen and it will take you to that page, where you can select which calendars you want to view.

OK - I didn't realize that it was the same page that lets you choose which calendars to display, probably because your screen shot had From my Mac and MobileMe sections. (I've never turned on syncing in iTunes, so my page only shows one calendar list.)

Thanks.

My birthday subscribed calendar is working on mine now. I use MobileMe and sync calendars OTA. Then last time I synced with itunes, I clicked the box to sync only Birthday calendars. Voila! Here's a screen shot of what it looks like. As you can see, it's titled "All from My Mac". But since I only synced the Bday cal from my mac, that's the only calendar there. Working perfectly :D

ETA: I just switched to a subscribed US Holidays cal and it's working now too, screen shot attached below :D

Do birthdays actually show up in the calendar on your iPhone? By adding two calendars (the same two you did), I was able to get both calendar titles to show up on that screen, but none of the Birthday calendar events ever showed up on my iPhone's calendar until I did the publish/subscribe method.

Yeah, here's a specific example.... showing my regular, Mobile Me cal (the purple) with the Birthday cal on the same day :)

That's great. I'll try it tonight. Hopefully it will work for me, too, as the publish/subscribe option has been acting quirky on my two synced Macs.

I'm glad it's not just ms with these problems. It seems that once you've sync'd any calendar from your Mac, you can't get rid of it. I reported it to Apple last night. You can have iTunes sync just one calendar after sync'ing more, but it'll never remove all of them.

I look forward to trying some of the suggestions in this thread. :)

Here's what I finally did to get it working correctly:

  1. I deleted the subscribed Holidays calendar from my iPhone and turned off calendar syncing in my iPhone's MobileMe settings
  2. I plugged my phone into iTunes and synced the Birthdays and Holidays calendars (so those were the only two calendars on my phone)
  3. I turned MobileMe calendar syncing on my iPhone back on
  4. The next time my computer synced MobileMe, it asked me if I wanted to merge the new calendars (meaning the Birthdays and Holidays from my phone). I told it "no"

Everything syncs now as it should, eventless days no longer show the dot in Month view and I don't have to worry about my two MobileMe-synced Macs fighting over which gets to publish the Birthdays calendar

Since the Birthdays and Holidays calendars rarely change, this was the best option for me.

Older people rejected?

I have most but not all of my birthdays showing up on the iPhone. They ALL show up on my MobileMe calendar and in iCal. The ones NOT showing up are birthdays like 8/16/1929 and 10/20/1927. Are they too old to show up on the iPhone?

Anybody else seeing this?
