iPhone 3.0 Pictures in .PNG

I posted this over in the Bugs thread, but was wondering if anyone else noticed this. I've found two weird things when emailing pictures.

Emailing photos, especially multiple ones, is extremely laggy. Then I turned the phone into landscape and the keyboard did not resize. I replicated this three times.

Then, when importing the pictures into iPhoto, they didn't have a thumbnail on the import screen. Then I noticed they were .PNG files. This is a change from the usual .JPG

There is a reason why Apple made the 3.0 release BETA. It's because there are BUGS in the product.

I write software and my company just made a BETA release of our product and I'm still amazed that people are putting our product in real business environment for their users and complain to us about bugs. To bad for them because in our release notes and BETA warning boxes that the product is in BETA and our support will NOT support the product.

The OP wasn't bitching or whining, he was putting up a bug he found for public discussion. If others find the same bug then Apple can be notified about it with some good data to help them locate and "squish" said bug. What exactly is the issue you have with this?

I understand getting mad at the kiddies who were all "WOOT, new software must get it. Oh darn, it's buggy. How can Apple be so lame?" since they are expecting release quality from a beta. The rest of us are doing what a public beta is for, locating, verifying and reporting bugs.

If others find the same bug then Apple can be notified about it with some good data to help them locate and "squish" said bug.

Just curious, but why would you think Apple wouldn't want to know about this anyway?

Do they only want to know about bugs that effect everyone? Wouldn't this information be useful to them 'as is?'

I'd think that telling Apple about this would be what he SHOULD do.

you're absolutely correct, pardon my mistyping. I meant to say that the fact that a bug affects 1 person Versus 100 is a valuable tool in root cause analysis. If it affects 1 person's phone but not another then it might be hardware dependent or be interacting with programs on one phone that aren't on another. If it affects many across the board then it's software only.

I use information like that all the time at work to track down problems and fix the root cause.

Screenshots were always PNG and photos are JPG... what am I missing here?

The wonky keyboard problem, I have submitted to Apple. I'm fully aware of what beta means, I'm a software designer. I had some questions, mostly about the file type, so I posed them to a knowledgeable group. Lo and behold, they were answered.

Apple doesn't use MacRumors.com to gather bugs from beta testers. Hearing about 3.0 bugs here is quite annoying since, well, it's beta!

While it's true that Apple doesn't use this board to gather information, the users of this board do use it to collect and disseminate info which helps when we are then reporting the bugs. I know I like a bug report to have as much data as possible and bouncing the issues off of other people helps with that.

As far as hearing about it being annoying, I personally saved at least 1 person some headache by reporting that 3.0 made my Alpine headunit unable to communicate with the iPhone. He's going to wait now. That's not annoying, that's helpful.

Again, the people aren't reporting the bugs solely here. This is a place to discuss prior to submitting our bug reports. I'm betting a few of your beta testers talked about a bug before, during and after reporting it to your company. Without discussion, some things would end up reported that aren't bugs and some things might go unreported as people might not recognize it as a bug.

Here I fall on the old stand by, if they are annoying you, don't read them. On the flip side, your suggestion to create a forum for Beta testers is a good one, but don't know how much would be required to do that on this board.

Hey sorry to necro post but I just was trying to get my png code working on my phone and came across this. Was this reply really that relevant? This guy basically is just a smart ass. Someone is asking a question, one that I have as well. You don't need to make sarcastic replies. Better yet, don't reply at all.
