I have attempted to unlock the 3.0 firmware on my iPhone 2G. Unfortunately it won't do it and when it trys to load the firmware I just get a constant preparing for restore and then a 1604 error.

the annoying thing is that the phone is still unlocked and I can make calls from the emergency call screen I just can't seem to get into the home menu.

Is there anyway to sort this or even just revert to 2.2.

Thanks!

Im currently in your same situation, except im on windows and upgraded early. ive been stuck in the emergency screen for a few days waiting for the release to activate it. Currently not on a mac. Ive been trying to downgrade it but i get a 1602 error everytime i try. Downloading a earlier version to see if that works.

Firstly, put your phone in DFU mode (press & hold Power & Home buttons, release Power after 10 seconds, release Home after another 10 seconds)... when iTunes says it has found an iPhone in need of recovery, let it restore using the official Apple IPSW file.

In PwanageTool, build a new IPSW but increase the disk space, even if its only a few extra MBytes (I usually do 1024 or 2048) and use PwanageTool to put your phone into DFU mode.

Run iTunes but this time, when you get a message about an iPhone needing to be recovered, press & hold ALT (on Mac) or SHIFT (Win) as you click on the restore button.

This allows you to choose your IPSW, select the new custom one you created earlier and you should be OK.
