I have been combing through the internet looking to see if anyone has found a way to do this. I've been running 3.0 on my 3G for a little bit over a week and I have been trying to see if anyone has found a way to unlock the video recording for iPhone 3G running 3.0?

It is a hardware limitation. You can get around 15fps with midicore compression with some jailbreak apps.

If you want the 30fps video, buy a GS.

I mean it should still be possible to unlock it for the 3G... it might not look as good as the 3GS but the functionality should still be possible.. I mean some of the DEVs were able to unlock it on the seeded Versions of 3.0

I'm confused, why can't you just download something like Cycorder for 3.0?

1. It's not jailbroken, yet.
2. It can't edit videos.
3. It's not as easy to play/view.
4. It won't work with other apps (The API).

I'm interested in this as my Dad is having my 3G when I get the 3GS, but he wants video recording on it, not impressive video, but something that he can use easily, to get on his computer, etc.

Any fellow devs share how they did it with the betas? :) (I am a dev too, fyi)

Sounds like you should be giving your dad the 3GS then. Jailbreak should be out today, but I haven't heard anything about anyone utilizing the stock apple video recorder on standard 3G. And of course, none of the 3rd party video recorders offer the full functionality you request.

I was trying to decrypt the 3g s firmware last night, but didn't get too far. my hopes were that Id be able to extract the apps and insert them onto the 3g like we were able to do with the ipod touch when they didnt have mail maps or weather.

Im sure a couple plists would need to be changed as well.

I saw in the other post this tips:

Enable Video Recording on 2G/3G?
SSH into your iphone
Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/
Download the file M68AP.plist
Open the file using a text editor or a plist editor
Add a Boolean value under the capabilities dictionary
Boolean Key = video-camera / Boolean Value = true
Save and upload the file to the same directory that it was originally in
Go onto the iPhone and respring Done!

I did that , the icon for choose veideo recorder apperar but we cannot use photo neither video recorder function, than I came back...

I hope you find a way to do that... hands work..

Would love to see this enabled on the 3g. I got the 3gs but my wife took it. So I'm left with my 3g. :( its fine but I'd like to have the video recording.

This makes NO sense, you do that and you not only disable your camera, but you do not get video capabilities...stop posting that, it does NOTHING but disable camera/video.
