Yeah hi,
I have an iPhone 1g 8gbs on firmware 3.1.2. My sister accidentally upgraded it to 3.1.2 because she was on the computer putting songs into it and did not read what the thingy said about upgrading it and pressed download and install. So now, I have this problem. I cant get it to work anymore. I mean the sim card does not get recognised by the iPhone. I tried trying to unlock it with Ziphone but apprently that doesnt work. I jail braked it with pruplera1n. I know that when you jailbrake it, you can go to Cydia and install something to get it unlocked, but this isnt the case for me since I cant get past the emergency calls page. I can't get a New Zealand sim card because that it far far away from here and would be costly. My sister had a NZ sim card but that did not work. I guess it was expired already.

Now my question is:
How do I unlock my 1g iPhone 8gbs?
Btw, does redsn0w work?
PS: I am using Windows XP by the way.

Thank you guys and I hope you have the answer :)

First generation iPhones are the easiest to unlock, and fix should anything like this happen.

Find a Mac and get PwnageTools, then run Pwnage to and "neuter" the bootloader, and this should unlock the phone.

Sorry but I have no access to Macs. Most of my friends have Windows. Is there any other way? Thanks.

EDIT: Would it work if I download a customised IPSW especially for 1g iPhones? And how about downgrading it would that work? THanks

Can't you downgrade back to 3.0/3.0.1 and jb/unlock that?

I can't seem to downgrade it. I put it in DFU mode, tyhen go on iTunes and restore it with the 3.0 upgrade. But it always says error 1602 or something like that. It's annoying me right now :) lol.
Can you downgrade? Is that possible?

Maybe I should just get it done in the unlocking shop in Perth.

Try installing 3.0 with recovery mode instead of DFU, ie, just hold the home button down as you connect it to iTunes. See if that works.

you can just install a custom firmware that has been created on a mac but has been made available for windows (google custom frmware) You shouldnt use the official apple upgrade really, if you need to unlock.

I used a custom F/W to upgrade to 3.1.2. Just fired up itunes hit "shift click restore" chose the custom f/w i downloaded sit back n let the magic happen and my iphone was done in around 20 minutes and it was unlocked and jailbreak.
