I was checking the official Apple discussions board, and it's chaos over there with a 12 page thread regarding iPhone 3G's which now have extremely poor battery life since the upgrade to OS 3.1.

Now that threads are popping up here, has there been any mention of this in a "mainstream" online media site to highlight this now obvious issue with the new firmware.

I'm buying another iPhone 3G on PAYG on the 23rd of this month, and don't want to buy one if it's going to come out the box with this dodgy firmware and no quick fix.

The thing is, according to some threads/posts on the official Apple discussions, it's also affecting some 3GS's as well as 3G's.

At the end of the day, customers are paying a hell of a lot of money for these devices whether it's up front on PAYG or via long term, monthly payment contracts.

Apple need to get their finger out ... and sharp.

I upgraded my iPhone 3G to 3.1, and now the battery drains very quickly.

Hardly makes using the thing worthwhile.

I see that a lot of people are also having this problem after the update.

It seems incredible that this can come out of Apple – what sort of testing do they do?

I've been using Apple products since the 1980s, but the post-iPod success seems to have made them less focussed on quality
