iPhone 3G 2.0.2 WiFi issue ("No WiFi")

Hi! I just bought a brand new iPhone 3G. WiFi worked good when it was factory new on 2.0.1, but since I updated to 2.0.8 (in iTunes 8), it doesn't show the networks, because it's searching and searching with no end. After some reboots is was even worse: NO WIFI!! It's written in the preferences pane: No WiFi, (Check out the screenshot) and there is no possibility to click on the wifi section..!
Man, what can I do?? It's brand new!!
please help me!

I have the same problem with a first gen iPhone. Through 2.0 Wi-Fi worked fine, but when I updated to 2.0.1 it got flakey on me. 2.0.2 didn't help at all. Just yesterday I got that No WiFi message in settings. I've read that some people have had luck mucking with their DNS settings. Didn't work for me. I'm going to try 2.1 and see if that helps. If not I plan on taking it in to the Apple Store.

I updated to 2.1 and still "No Wi-Fi"... What do you mean by "mucking with their DNS settings"? How do you do that?
 
I can't find the original forum posts I was reading about the DNS fix, but the basic idea is to determine a known good DNS IP address and hard code that into your WiFi settings. It's not going to help at all if the WiFi settings are greyed out.

Upgrading to 2.1 didn't help me either, but it did make backing up my iPhone practical again (from 2 hours down to 2 minutes). With an up to date backup in hand I decided to try another full restore. After restoring the firmware and then the latest backup my WiFi immediately connected, and has been working fine for 24 hours now. So nice to have it back! I'd forgotten how much faster it is than Edge.

I learned a few things about 2.1 during the restore process. After the restore, and before I'd synced, I didn't have any apps. Obviously one of the major ways in which the backup was sped up was to not backup the application files. This got me worried that my Aurora Fient (I'm addicted to this thing!) progress had been lost. After syncing my apps everything was fine, except that my icons were now in alphabetical order. I'll take 15 minutes of icon shuffling as the only consequence for fixing my WiFi. :)

So, from "No Wi-Fi", now it works again? I don't know... Apple said they would replace my phone, I don't know if try now, maybe have success, and then nothing again after an update... What would you do?
 
That's a difficult choice. If you're not having any physical issues with your phone, and you still have some time on your warranty I'd give the restore a try. If your WiFi hardware is on the fritz I'd think the restore would do you no good, and the same problem would manifest.
 
Well after a couple days my WiFi is back to it's old dirty tricks. I've turned it back off because it thrashes in and out of WiFi so bad. I'm going to try a few changes on my router, but I'm starting to think that power management on the iPhone is screwing with the WiFi signal.

I got my iPhone replaced... None of the tips helped me.. But, software 2.2 was not out, maybe updating could solve this, even though I think that it's a hardware issue...

I also got my iPhone replaced. The guy who helped me hinted that the wi-fi antenna may have broken loose.
