Hey all, I'm new here. First time posting.
I've recently ran into a lot of trouble going about jailbreaking the new 3.0 firmware on the iPhone 3G 16GB. The first time, the phone would not recognize my carrier for some reason, and the second time, I had the infamous battery drain. The third time, I set it up as a new phone instead of restoring it from the backup (from what I've heard this is the main culprit for the poor bat life?), and the battery problems seems to have gotten slightly better.
Now, the main problem now... for some weird reason, my Mail app seems to RANDOMLY open in the background. I know this since I have the SBSettings installed on my jailbroken iPhone and I usually make sure that the process is killed right after I use it (so I don't waste more battery life). The mail app itself doesn't open randomly, but rather appears in the process when I check the SBSettings after a while. And yes, all the usual suspects are off, that's why it's so puzzling; that includes push notifications being off for both third party apps and the mail app itself, fetch is set to manual, location services are off. But even after all that, the mail app seems to be activating its processes on its own for some reason, like it has a mind of its own. I'm still suffering from somewhat poorer battery life compared to the previous firmware (2.2) and I have a feeling this random processing by the mail app is to blame. Can anyone with knowledge speculate what my problem might be? Few things to know about my phone: Jailbroken to 3.0 using redsn0w on whatever the latest itunes is, no data plan (both 3G and EDGE off, with additional fake APN block done), set up as new phone, previous firmware was 2.2 jailbroken.
Also, an additional question... location services along with G-maps REALLY seems to drain the battery a lot; and I mean like a percentage of battery life every 2 minutes or so. I speculate that this is normal, but just wanted to make sure if it really is supposed to drain that much battery and if this is the case of all of you here as well.
