Iphone 3g 3.0 JB questions

Hi - I had a question in light of the recent 3.1 Iphone OS changes -and all this 'on file' stuff

Is it still safe to JB an iPhone 3G running 3.0 - (that has not been JB before) using redsn0w 0.8?

i thought redsn0w 0.8 didn't work for the official 3.1 firmware. are you saying i can use it to jailbreak my 3.0 3G to 3.1?
