After the 10.5.7 update I cannot connect my iPhone (3G with OS 3.0b5) with my MBP. It doesn't even charge. I tried the following:
*iPod nano does sync/connect with this machine.
*tried different cables/usb ports/used a USB hub. nothing.
*resetted SMC/PRAM/NVRAM. didn't help.
*reinstalled the latest iTunes 8.2b. nothing.
*removed iTunes 8.2 and installed iTunes 8.1.1. same thing.
*tried to connect to a different machine (mac mini with 10.5.6) and it worked. iPhone was charging and iTunes recognized it.

My guess is either 10.5.7 or a problem with the drivers on this MBP. Any help is greatly appreciated!

My hardware is a second generation MBP 2.16GHz.

Update: I tried repairing permissions and reinstalling 10.5.7 as a combo update. Still nothing.

OK, at least it's not me who is having this issue.
oddjones, did you install software from Huawei (3G usb modem).

nope

Sorry didn't get the meaning of your post at first - I don't have any modem software installed, connect through my home router. Ran the update and noticed my iphone battery was flat - connected up and it synced but disconnected after about 3 minutes - every time I try to connect it I get the same issue - it's wierd. iPhoto recognises the phone, so does iTunes (8.2b) but then they both drop the connx and my phone stops charging - bummer. Can't see any other posts out there tho'.

I just noticed that I'm not using an apple USB Cable - took my phone through and connected it to my old g4 iMac to charge - and it doesn't seem to be charging there either - may be the cable - have switched to an apple cable - see if that makes any difference (surely it shouldn't!)

Submit a bug report to Apple. This is why they release beta to the developers.
yes, thanks for that - I posted wider coz it's not been listed on the developer forums. Incidentally, connected with an apple USB cable and everything worked again - coincidence? I don't know - hope it helps.

I had this same trouble after installing the iphone configuration utility on top of 3 beta 5. To fix I had to uninstall everything (itunes 8.2, sdk 3 beta 5, followed instructions for removing apple mobile device service etc.) and then reinstall everything and that fixed the problem.

For me iPhoto could see my iPhone but xCode and iTunes could not.

Now the iPhone connected to iTunes, it told me that I needed to upgrade to iTunes 8.2 of course. Upgraded back to 8.2 and now it's finally syncing.

Last thing I tried after I repaired permission and reinstalled 10.5.7 combo was removing the SDK. However that did not work initially. iPhone didn't even charge with my MBP.
A day later (after putting the MBP in sleep mode) it finally worked!
It's a very strange bug

Thanks everyone, though :D

Mac mini (with 10.5.7) not recognizing an iPhone with 3.0

Guys,

* Had a mac-formatted iPhone 3G and backed up my contacts on my mac mini (with 10.5.6 and itunes 8.1.1 at the time)

* Upgraded to 3.0 on windows, jailbroke it with redsn0w, unlocked it with ultrasn0w.

* Did a software update on the mac mini, so upgraded to itunes 8.2 and 10.5.7.

And now, when I connect the phone to my mac mini, it does not recognize the phone at all, not even to recharge it. WTF?

Need to crack this so that I can restore my mac-mini contacts onto the phone again.

Please advise, gracias,

S

ps: just connected the phone to my MBP 15" unibody (10.5.6) with itunes 8.2. It detected it, is charging it, and recognizes it from iTunes. i think Apple's really f*&^d around with 10.5.7 and that's where the problem lies.

Still, if you have any advise on mac mini 10.5.7 problem above, let's have it. cheers.

i wonder if this is related to my question about the power adapter. have you tried using the wall charger? any problems there? I haven't had any problems syncing, but I only do it on one computer.
