iPhone 3G ... AT&T "Unlocked" (sim-locked!!)

Hi!
I was looking around about the AT&T pirces about the iPhone... I thought that the unlocked version was able to support all carriers but as I saw isn't possible, so... Now with the new version of Installer (4.0) coming soon will be possible to jailbreak the phone, but how can I unlock it for all the carriers?
There's a method?

There's a method in the works but it's not complete yet. So you'll have to either a) wait or b) use a simcard hack. If you want my opinion, you are better off waiting.

Oh, and by the way, it is already possible to jailbreak your iPhone, take a look at the stickies in this forum.

In how many days you think will be possible to unlock with all carriers the iPhone 3g?...

Glad I could help.

You can jailbreak now, and get Installer on it when it comes out you know?

And as far as the amount of days, nobody knows. It could come out tomorrow, or it could prove very tough (like the 4.6 bootloader) and last a month. Anything else people tell you is a complete guess.

But isn't better to use the sim hack? You haven't to unlock the software so you can send it to Apple if it has a problem without problems right?

The simhack does indeed work, but it is not as a clean solution as Pwnage is. And you still have to "tweak" the software with the Sim solution as far as i know (i am not sure on this though).

If you jailbreak it now, you can install openSHH when Installer 4 comes out and manually install it, or you could just restore your phone again and install Installer 4 from scratch.

And I wouldn't pay for that. IPSF (The logo that appears in the webpage) was legit times before, but they have proven to just take free app's and use them to their advantage (and charge for them too). You are better off waiting than paying for something that is still very shady imo.

no where did they ever claim to unlock the 3G with 2.0.1

they HAVE said that they have successfully tested their own baseband, which means it is coming soon and totally awesome

It's probably a mistype; they're coders, not writers. With Pwnage 2.0 you can jailbreak the iPhone (1G), iPhone 3G, and the iPod Touch. Furthermore you can unlock the iPhone (1G) but only that phone, you can not unlock the iPhone 3G at this time.

Out of curiosity, what will the unlock of the 3g accomplish? I thought achieving 3g on t-mobile's 3g network wasn't possible due to slightly different frequencies? So wouldn't you be stuck with edge and better off with the old iphone (price wise). I guess unless the gps will work and people are willing to pay more $$ to have it?

To get *new*, yeah, but you could buy a used first gen. I guess I just don't see the draw of paying $300 more for an unsubsidized 3g phone over a first gen iphone only to have the gps. Unless the new looks are that important to you.
