So. I have had an iphone 3g's battery expand to the point of curving the logic board by a slight bit, and even kill some of the pixels on the display.

I'm wondering if any of that "damaged" hardware will need replacing, I don't wont a good looking 3G but a working one.

I noticed that when the phone would manage to not instantly shut down on the apple logo screen. The device would have a purple screen of death. Either this could all be caused by a toast battery causing the device to freak out or the fact that the logic board was curved (and possibly some flex cables were detached. Since cable 6 is neigh impossible to attach to the logic board)

Best case scenario is that the battery is all that needs replacing. A photo of the logic board will be provided

Someone else will chime in but could you use a hot air station to warm the whole unit up, jus thot enough to allow some very gentle flattening?

I'm not a collector of vintage electronics, so take this with a grain of salt, but wouldn't it make sense to just buy a working iPhone 3G on eBay or another marketplace instead of trying to fix one with bad pixels, a warped board and a bad battery?

You are right, the thing is that this one costed literally a dollar. Although admittedly I did make the wrong choice, but how would I learn otherwise?
