iphone 3G bricked when connected to computer?

I had Norton Anti Virus on a windows XP machine I normally sync with leopard but just wanted to transfer photos. A message popped up and I clicked ok without reading (It was from Norton) and my iPhones screen went white. After 20 seconds it turned off. I waited about a minute then restarted it but it hangs on the Apple logo for 10-15 seconds Vibrates 3 times then turns back off I haven't tried connecting it to my mac yet. Will a restore work if it can detect my phone?
Firmware 2.2 3G 8GB

connected to my mac said iPhone was in DFU mode and it came on and so far works fine. I had to do a restore though......

Glad you got it fixed! For any other viewers with this problem that isn't solved by a DFU Mode restore, you should try to hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button until nothing is on the screen. Then hold the home button while you connect to iTunes via a USB cord. iTunes should prompt you that an iPhone has been detected in Recovery Mode and it needs to be Restored before it can be used with iTunes.

Thanks I just wish I knew what really caused it my gut tells me norton but it hasent happend to the tens of thousands of other people that have it?

Out of the tens of thousands of other people that have Norton, I highly doubt even one has the same exact computer as you with the same applications, downloads and everything. Everything you put on your computer adds more risk to something going wrong so just because everyone else with Norton went unaffected, that doesn't mean you are. And it's hard to tell exactly what made it go kaput! You should keep Norton on because it's a good piece of software to keep viruses away, especially for PC!
