Ok so my iphone fell off my bed and it cracked...its not bad but i want to replace it. Now I know that I need to order the glass with the digitizer but do i also need a new home button and side volume button? Can i just move the buttons from the old glass and put them on the new one?

Go to the Apple store first

I dropped mine last week, while getting out of the car. The phone fell face downwards on asphalt. Some pretty cracks running across the glass.

Made an appointment with the local Apple store. They asked me what happened, checked for water damage (there was none), told me that it costs a lot to get it repaired, and then proceeded to replace it at no cost to me. Let's say I was very-very surprised, and happy.

Don't really know why Apple was generous. Also, they replaced it with a new phone (in a white box). They don't have any white, 16 GB remanufactured phones to give out as of yet.

Long story short, visit a local Apple store and talk to them.

Good luck. I feel your pain.

genius bar?

Did you make an appointment with the genius bar people? or just went to the apple store?

Made an appointment.

Also, it was early in the morning, and I was dressed for work. Suit, tie, the works. Don't know if that matters. Usually, I am a slouch in ratty jeans.

Alright sound good. I now have an appointment for 11:55 tomorrow.
and the worst part is that i've only had this phone for 7 days.

Dude!!! I went in and the guy is like "your very lucky, since the crack is not spider webbed I can take care of this for you" and he gave me a new iphone. He explained to me that apple has exceptions for hairline cracks and they will just give you a new one. But thanks to you I got a new iphone.

Excellent. Enjoy the money saved :)

is that true in all cases?
if i had a hairline, they'd
replace it free of charge?
would i be able to do that
at a ATT store? or best buy?

Well the "genius" told me this when i showed him my iphone "usually apple does not replace cracked iphone screens and you would be looking at a whole new phone right now, howeverrrrr...they do make an exception for hairline cracks." Then he just looked at the phone for any damages and then said "i can actually take care of this for you" and then opened a drawer filled with white boxes, took one out and opened it and it was a brand new iphone in bubble warp. Then he made sure that i had backed up my data and then took my sim card out the old phone put it in the new one, made me sign a "you have a new serial number" sheet and that was it. I took in my iphone with the box, headphones, and wall charger, he just looked at them and didnt say anything about them.

Sooo if you have a hairline crack on your screen then make an appointment with the genius bar at an apple store and hope for the best. I dont think bestbuy has genius representatives. Im pretty sure it the geniuses that have to choose whether or not to replace your iphone.

And it's always helpful to keep in mind that they will be more inclined to help you if you aren't acting like a complete moron about it :D. Being polite can go a long way.

Not to be a n00b or anything but wtf is a GENIUS BAR?

Because my phone is leaking light out, it looks like when it was assembled one side is not tighther then the other so when im using the phone in the dark its ****** annoying to see the light leak out through the side of the screen.

Though you can only see this under VERY DARK conditions and im contemplating to eithr go back to AT&T or Apple whichever will provide me with better support. BTW AT&T charges 20% Restocking fee. though this isnt a refund, so i dont know how that will work?

Like i want to replace the phone due to it being defective.

Man, same thing happened to me today. I have a protective screen over the glass but there are some hairline cracks throughout it. The phone works though. I made an appt today so hopefully they give me a new phone!!!

Mac genius said no dice :(

Anyone here have some ideas?

I'm not helping, but here's my phone. I live a few hours from an apple store, so I want to be confident.

Anyone had any luck replacing a phone with spiderweb cracks in the screen? I somehow managed to lose my phone out the window of a moving truck last night. It was heartbreaking.

And how well do the Genius guys respond to walk-ins without appointments? The one closest to me seems to always be booked. I'm expecting to get turned down where I currently have a reservation and would like to just waltz in and drop a cracked phone on them. Worth a shot?
