Hi all, I have this from another thread already (Thanks to Still24):

1. In iTunes, right-click the song you want, go to 'Get Info' and change the start and end points so it's 30 seconds in length.
2. Right-click the song again, 'convert selection to AAC'.
3. Find this new file or drag it from iTunes to your desktop.
4. Rename the file extension from .m4a to .m4r.
5. Import it back into iTunes and it will appear as a ringtone

That creates a ringtone that the iPhone recognises.

1. How do you create a tone that will appear for selection to use as a text alert?

2. How do you create a tone that can be used for the clock alarm/calendar notification?

3. How do you set your own pictures etc to your background?

1. I don't think you can.

2. I don't think you can.

3. You can go to Settings > Wallpaper > and then select an image from your camera roll or your synced album from your computer. Alternatively you can just view your pictures in the photos app and click the square box in the bottom left with the arrow in it, and the first option is 'Use as Wallpaper'.

1. You cannot legitimately. At present Apple only allows the six preset messages to be used. You can, however, jailbreak the phone, and then overwrite one of the six presets with your own sound file.

2. The same way, as alarms can select any of the ringtones you have loaded into the phones. Calendar notifications are unchangeable.

3. Instructions specified before. Note that this wallpaper only appears on the lock screen. At present, the only way to have a true "background" image (as in, shown in the background of the main screen with all your icons) is to jailbreak the phone and install Summerboard.

While it is possible, I don't believe the jailbreak for 2.0 has been released yet. Plus, you are mucking with the internals of the phone....it's no big deal at all, but it's something people should consider before they decide to do it.
