Hi guys,
I was running on iOS 4.2.1 on my iPhone 3g for a while but then i decided to downgrade to iOS 3.2.1 because iOS 4.2.1 was to slow.
So i'm opening up iTunes but everytime i try to restore it (shift+restore), it stucks on 'preparing iphone for restore' and after 3-4 minutes it's showing 'The iPhone ''iPhone'' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604).

I tried everything to exit it from recovery, things like iREB, TinyUmbrella, redsn0w but it's not working..it shows that error 1604 every time.
And another thing is that when I try to charge phone it shows only a battery on the screen with a low red battery. I let it to charge for 1 or 2 days but it's the same low red battery on the screen like this http://zapp5.staticworld.net/howto/graphics/210480-iphone-red-battery-screen_302_original.jpg

Help and thanks :)

As you are trying to downgrade it might be a BB issue.

Make a custom NO_BB firmware and do a pwned-DFU restore.

See iclarified.com for tutorials

Can you tell me how can I do that because that's not very clear for me?!

I'm opening iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw from iTunes and trying to restore it but that error is coming up, and when charging it shows only that red battery, nothing else...sorry because i'm new on this :s

3.2.1 isn't even a firmware for 3G (It was iPad firmware)

If you battery is shot, nothing will work correctly on the phone.

thanks for replying dhlizard, i'm going to change the battery because nothing is working to restore the phone..there is always error 1604 and the phone always stays on that low red battery.

But i have another question...why did the phone crashed when i tried to downgrade it, phone was working with no problems on 4.2.1 and just because i tried to downgrade it the battery is dead now?
That means that the battery doesn't accept downgrading...lol

thanks.

hey guys thanks for help
I changed the battery, jailbroken it and now the phone works great.
I'm on 4.2.1 and the baseband is 05.15.04 and on this baseband you cannot unlock the phone using ultrasn0w...so i am trying to upgrade the baseband to 06.15.00 with redsn0w (install cydia and ipad baseband checked) and put the phone on DFU mode but then the reds0w is staying on 'waiting to reboot device' and nothing happens...then the iTunes is opening automatically and is saying that the phone is on recovery mode!!
Help please!

Kick it out of recovery with TU or redsn0w.

Flashing the bb might take several try's

now redsn0w is saying that is Done and the rest of the process is on device now, but phone is not showing anything, phone is turned on but the screen is black!

What you see is cell tower triangulation.
Download a true GPS from AppStore, it will fail.

In fact I don't need GPS and I don't use it. The carrier is working good and I just wanted to know if staying on 6.15.00 is good or bad because it's an iPad baseband as I know. Thanks

Thank you all, I've downgraded to 5.13.04 using redsn0w and now everything is ok.
Thanks again :)
