Does the iPhone 3G GPS have a seperate battery or does it use the main iPhone battery? If it uses the one main battery, what happens if this battery is flat? Will the GPS not work at all so if there is an emergency and someone wants to locate you using the GPS in your iPhone 3G they won't be able too?

Even if you have battery, I don't think they can locate you by using the GPS in your iPhone 3G. AFAIK, it's only a GPS receiver. It doesn't transmit anything. If they locate you by using your iPhone 3G, then they're doing triangulation based off of the phone part of the iPhone (i.e. what towers it's registered with, etc), not the GPS part.
