I was at the Apple Store checking out the 3g phone and I could not find a setting to turn off GPS. Also, could not find any settings for it. I assume I just missed it but could any of you with a 3g tell me what options the 3g has for GPS on/off etc.

3G can be turned off, as with Wi-Fi. If 3G is off, it reverts to EDGE. As I understand it, GPS does not have an on\off switch, rather is just disables itself when not in use, like if you get out of the Maps applet.

I am basing the GPS auto-disable off of what I have heard, I did not hear this from an official source, so if I am wrong I'll ask someone in the know to chime in1!

Under Settings->General->Location Services (On/Off)

For the old 1st Gen iPhone, this turns off the tower/Wifi based stuff. For the 3G iPhone, it turns of all of that plus the GPS.

I did see that and when I read your Post I said that probably makes since. If I don't want GPS then I probably don't want the other features as well since GPS would give the most accurate location information.

I guess I thought there might be other "tuning" options where you could also turn it on/off.
