Iphone 3g - Ipod keeps turning off and pausing itself! Also restoring an iphone.help!

Yeah basically i have had my iphone for about 1-2 months, i jailbroke it within the first week of having it. As of the last week when ever i have had my songs playing through the ipod app even when locked, songs will either turn off, pause it self and continue playing in either seconds or minutes or go to the next song.

Any advise?

If i am to restore my iphone and it is jailbroken is there any way for me to keep my contacts?
