hmmm....I own a 3GS. I'll guinea pig it for you. Rebooting now after installing the plist file...

Update :

WOW

So, the combination of the reboot and the plist file definitely did something! For the first time, when freeing memory in SBSettings it jumped over 200mb, even with Safari open. Phone feels extremely snappy so far. Hopefully it stays this way, it's very nice.

with a 3g i now have around 79Mb free, but the phone does not feel any "snappier" or different at all.

Is there any confirmation that this actually destroys the memory on the phone? I have read arguments and both sides claim different things. Once I saw the responses I installed the plist, however I dont know if I should be worried about killing the memory. :(

I tried this with my iPhone 3G about a month ago. At first there was a noticeable improvement but after a few days of use the phone seemed to slow down worse than before.

I would not recommend using this method, just my opinion.

I don't see how it could harm your phone, but it's a useless mod. I tested it out and got over 85MB free, but it would lock up when it got down to 30. Without it, I have 55MB and it doesn't lock up when it gets low, so 55 is better than 85 in this case.

Your phone will free memory on it's own when needed and it will do it in a better way than writing to disk. If you have no memory after boot, you have too much crap hogging it, like themes. Slim those down and disable some daemons and it should run smooth as silk without you ever needing to worry about memory.

It kills your iPhone/touch due to the fact your not using the 128mb ram but the 8,16 or 32gb of flash memory. Flash has limited read write cycles. When blocks are constantly paged they die! Simple

I used this hack on my 3g for several weeks as I like to run several apps at once, and hated the fact that they would randomly quit when the phone ran out of RAM. It worked, in that apps no longer quit, but overall it made the phone too laggy. As writing to the flash is significantly slower than using ram, there was just too many places where the phone would get non-responsive. I finally bit the bullet and bought a 3gs. Bingo! Now I run as many apps at a time as I want, and it's still faster than the 3g!
