Hey everyone,
i have an old iPhone 3G that i want to give to my friend. it's jailbroken and unlocked on iOS 3.1.2. i want to update it to 4.2 and completely wipe everything off it. can anyone help with that ? there's a bunch of unlock and jailbreak stuff out there but i can't figure out which to use and in what order. thank you!

Connect to iTunes and hit restore. If you have the iPad baseband on it, you'll need a custom firmware.
 
I don't know how it was unlocked, when i got it it was already done.
how do I check the baseband ?

Looks like an Ultrasn0w unlock.

Honestly, doing an upgrade and preserving the unlockable baseband takes some knowledge of iPhone jail breaking.

Based on your responses here, I would encourage you not to try it on your own.
